Let Me Go 1

Let Me Go-1

Kaia’s heart pounded as she fled, her steps erratic and her breath coming in desperate gasps. She

didn’t know where she was going, only that she needed to escape the overwhelming emotions.

Her thoughts were a whirlwind of confusion and fear, and her vision blurred with unshed tears.

When Markus touched her, she felt her entire being becoming still in panic. Except for touching

Asher this week, she didn’t have physical interactions for years.

Behind her, Markus pursued, his long strides effortlessly closing the distance between them. He

called her name softly, trying not to startle her further, but Kaia’s panic was too great. She pushed

forward, determined to put as much space between them as possible.

Just as she thought she might succeed, Markus appeared before her, having taken a shortcut. Kaia skidded to a halt, her eyes wide with terror. She began to tremble, her body on the brink of a

breakdown.

“Kaia,” Markus said gently, raising his hands to show he meant no harm. “It’s okay. I’m not here to

hurt you. Please, calm down.”

But Kaia was beyond reasoning. Her fear spiraled into a full-blown panic attack. She screamed and cried hysterically, her hands clutching at her hair as she sank to her knees. The sight tore at

Markus’s heart, and he knew he had to act quickly.

He approached her slowly, murmuring soothing words. “Kaia, it’s alright. You’re safe. I’m here to

help.”

Despite her struggles, he knelt down and gathered her in his arms, holding her firmly but gently.

Kaia fought against him, her cries piercing the night, but Markus didn’t let go. He kept whispering

calming words, his voice steady and reassuring.

“Shhh, it’s okay. I’ve got you,” he said, rocking her slightly. “You’re safe with me. I mean no harm.”

Minutes passed, and slowly, Kaia’s frantic thrashing began to subside. Her screams turned into sobs, and her sobs into hiccups. Her body, exhausted from the outburst, started to relax against

Markus’s solid frame.

“That’s it, just breathe,” Markus whispered. “Calm down, baby doll. I’ve got you.”

Kaia’s eyes snapped open at the old nickname from her childhood, a flicker of annoyance cutting through her fear. “I hate that nickname you gave me. I always did,” she said in a trembling voice. “I’m not a baby.”

Markus chuckled softly, the sound a low rumble in his chest. “Compared to me, you are,” he replied, his tone gentle. “I’m nearly a century old, remember?”

Kaia glared at him weakly, “You’re ancient,” she murmured in an ironic tone.

“Maybe,” Markus said, smiling back at her. “But that just means I’ve had a lot of practice at calming people down.”

Kaia sighed, her body finally going limp in his arms. She rested her head against his shoulder,

feeling the steady beat of his heart against her cheek. For the first time in a long while, she allowed herself to relax, trusting in the strength and warmth that enveloped her.

“Thank you,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

“Anytime, Kaia,” Markus replied, his voice filled with genuine care. “You’re not alone. You never have to be alone.”

As the moonlight bathed the garden in a soft, silvery glow, Markus and Kaia sat together in silence, the night air filled with the distant sounds of celebration. Markus looked down at Kaia, her face partially hidden by the shadows and the veil she always wore. He could see the exhaustion in her eyes, but also a spark of something more, deep sadness and resignation.

“Kaia,” Markus began softly, “Azriel loves you. He misses you terribly. I miss you as well; each time l visited you were a vocal presence.”

Kaia sighed, a mix of regret and sadness in her expression. “Things changed.”

Markus couldn’t help but tease her, his tone playful yet tender. “Are you saying you’re not in love with me anymore, baby doll?” he asked, feigning pain.

Kaia blushed violently, her cheeks turning a deep shade of red. “That was when I was ten years old,” she protested. “You can’t count that as a true love confession.”

you Markus chuckled, the sound deep and warm. “You were pretty serious back then. I remember telling me you would be my queen. You even had it all written down: the wedding, the future pups.”
