“How is this possible?” Markus spoke to his wolf, “She’s marked, yet I sense her as my mate.”

His wolf replied in rage “Her wolf… she opposed the mark. His mark is there, but it’s not complete. They… they never completed the full bond despite being marked and mated.”

Alex’s expression contorted with anger and disbelief. “What is going on? What is this nonsense?!” he demanded, his voice echoing in the tense silence. Alena’s eyes were wide with shock as she stared at King Markus, the realization dawning upon her. Her fated mate was the King himself! Oh, Goddess! “I am mated with the freaking King himself!” she screamed in her mind in disbelief.

Before anyone could react, she moved swiftly, closing the distance between her and Markus. To everyone’s astonishment, she threw her arms around Markus, tears streaming down her cheeks.” Mate,” she whispered in a tender, broken tone, as if the word itself was a lifeline she had been

clinging to for years.

Gasps filled the room as the gravity of the situation settled in. Alpha Ben and his mate exchanged shocked glances, while Alex’s face turned a deep shade of red. “Alena, what the hell are you saying? Behave yourself!” he shouted, his voice a mix of anger and hurt.

Alex’s fists clenched at his sides, his whole body trembling with suppressed rage. “This is absurd! We’ve been together for years, Alena. I rejected my fated mate for you, and you promised that you would do the same! You can’t just change your mind now… I love you and you love me!”

“I never chose this,” Alena interrupted, her voice rising with emotion. “I fought it, resisted it because I wanted to be loyal to you. But my wolf… she always knew, that’s why she refused to mark you. She wants her true mate and I can’t fight it anymore. This is the bond we were meant to

have. I am sorry, Alex.”
