Restoring My Heart: After the Divorce novel Chapter 10

Discussing something urgent involved playing claw machines at an arcade?

If that little girl was simply his dead friend's child, why had she called him 'Daddy'?

Nora couldn't even describe the churning sickness in her gut. York was clearly just trying to shut her up, spinning an absurdly flawed lie right to her face.

The realization filled her with pathetic, self-deprecating bitterness.

Ironically enough, this was the longest string of sentences he had spoken to her in three entire years of marriage—all to desperately defend another woman.

"Also, Sienna came back on very short notice and has Sophie to worry about. They haven't found a suitable place to live yet, so I'm having them stay at our house for a while."

Nora hadn't even processed his incredibly intimate use of her first name before this second bombshell detonated right in her face. The shockwave left her head ringing violently.

She spoke on pure, horrified reflex.

"Excuse me?"

She seriously wondered if she was hallucinating.

York kept it short and definitive.

"Sienna and her daughter will be moving in with us temporarily. Get the house ready for them."

Hearing him loud and clear, Nora immediately raised her voice in absolute rejection.

"Absolutely not!"

Her red-rimmed eyes bored furiously into York's.

"That is our marital home! From the chandeliers down to the very silverware in the drawers, I picked out and arranged every single detail myself! I refuse to let outsiders move in!"

Surprised by her explosive refusal, York furrowed his brow. He was about to retaliate when his phone buzzed in his pocket.

It was his assistant, Harrison. He immediately answered.

"Mr. Blackwood, the meeting is about to start."

"Got it."

York replied flatly, hung up the phone, and shot Nora a glacial side-eye.

"I was informing you, Nora. Not asking for your permission."

As he spoke, the Bentley smoothly pulled up to the main entrance of the Blackwood Group headquarters.

York threw the door open and stepped out. "Take my wife home."
