Sitting on the sofa in the massive mansion, Lydia held her tablet, swiping through the photos. Was it really the same woman who had been beside him at the bar that night?
Who exactly was she?
She scrolled and scrolled but found absolutely nothing useful.
Just then, an unknown number called, and she swiped to answer.
The caller said, "Hello, this is Nexus Design Studio. Is this Ms. Rose?"
"Speaking." Lydia felt slightly confused. She had submitted her resume before, only for a nepotism hire to snatch the spot, leading to her rejection. Why were they calling now?
The caller sounded excited. "Ms. Rose, it's like this: our studio is currently expanding its operations and we need to hire a few more designers. After reviewing your portfolio, our director still really wants to bring you on board. The starting salary is a few thousand dollars a month. What do you think...?"
"I accept."
Lydia didn't agree so readily because she needed the money.
She just wanted something to do, so she wouldn't sit around at home constantly draining her energy over this half-dead marriage.
Design had always been her forte, and she was also passionate about writing. She was actually a somewhat well-known author, using writing as an emotional outlet.
She had just finished a novel and was still brainstorming her next book.
Overhearing this, Mrs. Gable was completely baffled. "Work? Why do you need to go out and get a job? Does Gideon know about this?"
"He doesn't care about my life. It makes no difference whether he knows or not." Lydia stood up, smiling. "You don't need to make lunch for me anymore. I'll eat at the office."
After Gideon decided to return to the country, Serena—who had been shooting short films abroad with dreams of breaking into Hollywood—also came back.
