Chapter 256
The entire ballroom had fallen deathly silent as I made my way towards the doorway. I paused for a moment, my eyes finding Landon. He stared at me as the others did, but there was something warm and familiar in his gaze that certainly wasn’t in the others’ eyes.
He gave me a curt nod, already knowing what I needed before I even asked. I nodded as well and left the ballroom.”
Once we were in the corridor, my steps grew faster.
Cecilia murmured something that I didn’t hear, but when I looked down at her, her eyes were still closed tightly. She tightened her grip on my shirt as well, her knuckles growing white.
It only made me hold her tighter against me.
It took us no time to get to the clinic. I pushed the door open and stepped inside, only to be greeted by the head healer, Victoria.
She gasped when she spotted Cecilia, and her face had gone pale.
“Oh, Goddess,” she breathed. “What happened?”
She ushered me into the common area where all the beds were. For the most part, it was unoccupied.
I brought Cecilia over to one of the beds and laid her down, though I didn’t really want to let her go; I knew I had to if I wanted her to get examined.
“She passed out during the wedding rehearsal ceremony,” I explained. “Please, do something.”
I didn’t like begging, but that was exactly what I was doing.
Victoria took a look at Cecilia; she pried her eyes open to examine her pupils, and Cecilia groaned uncomfortably.
When Victoria released her eyelids, she turned to me.
“I can help her, but I’m going to need you to leave,” she said, her eyes fixated on mine.
I furrowed my brows.
“What?” I asked, shaking my head. “No.”
“Your Majesty, with all due respect, I can’t assist her with an audience. I take my job seriously, and I strongly believe in patient healer confidentiality. Not to mention you are in the middle of your wedding rehearsal. You truly should not be here. I appreciate that you brought her here, but your job is done. You should go.”
My heart hammered loudly against my ribcage; I knew she was right. I did leave in the middle of the ceremony. Sophia was probably furious. I pressed my lips together, wanting to argue some more. But if I wanted her to make sure Cecilia was okay, I had to let her do her job.
“Just… take care of her,” I murmured as I stepped away. “And if anything happens, you let me know right away.”
“Of course, Your Majesty,” she said, bowing her head slightly. “You have my word.”
I stared at Cecilia for a moment longer, reluctant to leave her side, but I knew I had to.
Without another word, I turned and left the clinic, heading back to the ceremony that felt a lot like a funeral.

Third Person POV
Sophia wasn’t going to wait around for Leopold to return. Not only did he leave their wedding rehearsal for Cecilia, but he also fully embarrassed Sophia by rejecting her kiss and walking away the way he did.
Fury was boiling inside of her as hot tears burned in her eyes. She wasn’t going to let those around her see through; her mother stared at her with sympathy, and her father stared at her with pity, as did everyone else around her.
She took off after them, keeping to the shadows so Leopold wouldn’t spot her. She kept a far enough distance away from him so her scent wasn’t super obvious, not that he would even notice. It was obvious that he only had eyes for Cecilia, no matter how hard Sophia tried to get him to turn the other direction and leave Cecilia in the dust.

None of her efforts seemed to be working; at the end of the day, he was still drawn to that bitch.
She followed them until they reached the clinic; even inside the clinic, she remained in the shadows, listening to Leopold pleading for the healer to save Cecilia.
It made Sophia sick to her stomach.
Sophia had to hide in one of the nearby supply closets when Leopold passed her after he finally decided to leave. But even as he left, Sophia remained, listening for what felt like an eternity until she heard Cecilia’s voice.
“Thank you, Victoria,” she whispered. “For getting rid of him.”
“Well, as soon as I saw your focused eyes, I knew you were awake and only pretending to be asleep,” the healer, Victoria, stated calmly. “Want to tell me what happened?”
