et out a breath, allowing myself to relax a little as we followed Landon away from the main dining hall and towards the staircase that led towards the King’s private sector. Once we reached Leopold’s office, Landon shut the door behind us, locking it in place before he turned to look at us.

“I need answers,” he told me, his eyes remaining on mine. “Leopold won’t be happy if he finds out you’ve been going around with his wolf.”

My cheeks burned, and I lowered my gaze, feeling like a scorned child. It brought me back to my childhood.

Warren took a protective step in front of me, as if he could single-handedly shield Landon’s words from me.

“Not her fault,” Warren said firmly. “She can hear me… even while I’m locked away in Leopold’s mind. She’s the only one who I can speak to in that form. Only one who understands me. Leopold knows this.”

Landon’s eyes widened, and then he peered around Warren to look at me.

“That’s how you’ve been calming him down?” He asked. “You can speak to his wolf…?”

I nodded slowly.

“Yes,” I admitted. “I’m sorry that this was how you had to find out, Landon.”

“I don’t understand… what exactly are you? How is that possible?” Landon asked, shaking his head.

“We aren’t entirely sure,” I said, lifting my shoulders. “But over time… Warren and I have become friends.”

Landon was quiet for what felt like an eternity.

“Friends…” he said, his voice coming out as if he didn’t believe me. “Right. But regardless, why are you spying on Alpha William and his Luna? What do they have to do with your mother’s death?”

I glanced at Warren, and he looked back down at me. He gave me a subtle nod, and I released the breath I had been holding.

I couldn’t keep this a secret any longer; I needed to come clean to Landon too. If Warren trusted him… then maybe I could trust him as well.

So, I told him everything.

By the time I finished, Landon’s face had gone pale.

“So… the name in the beginning… it wasn’t a mix-up. There truly was a Sophia that was meant to be here?”

I nodded slowly.

“I had taken her place…” I told him. “Or at least I was forced to. I lied to you and told you that the name was a mistake… but in reality… it was me who was a mistake.”

Warren let out a low growl in his throat but ignored him and kept my focus on Landon.

“They aren’t good people, and I have a feeling they had something to do with my mother’s death. I was hoping for some answers.”

“And you thought they’d be speaking about it at the bar?” Landon asked, raising his brows.

I shook my head.

“I thought maybe they’d say something about Anna,” I confessed. “Maybe speak about where she had gone.”

What do you mean by that?” Landon asked. “She’s in the dungeon.”

“Escaped,” Warren replied, annoyance clear in his tone.

Landon’s expression darkened.

“She escaped??” He asked, narrowing his eyes. “Does the King know? Why was this not brought to my attention sooner??”

“No,” I replied honestly.

“I need to close the borders and send out a search. You need to give Leopold control back right now,” Landon said, narrowing his eyes at Warren. “As for everything else, we will figure it out.”

He was gone without another word.
