The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 293

Chapter 293

raided my half down my back, wisps of my hair still a bit out of place, but I didn’t bother smoothing them down.

My face was a bit paler than usual; probably from the exhausting morning that I faced and my worry for Claira.

I wanted to at least go to the clinic to see her before I left. I needed to know she was okay, and I also wanted to say- goodbye to Cora and Jasmine.

I went to the door and pulled it open, freezing when I saw a royal gamma warrior standing in front of me, his arms folded across his chest. He was acting like a wall, blocking me from leaving the room.

“Sorry, Miss. I have strict orders to keep you here until the carriage is ready,” the gamma tells me, making my heart stop in my chest.

“What?” I asked. “Like I’m a prisoner?”

Not “like” I’m a prisoner. I was a prisoner. I stepped back, the reality of the situation dawning on me. Leopold thought I would run, so he had a gamma stand guard outside my room.

I was such an idiot.

“I was just going to the clinic to say goodbye to my friends,” I told him.

“I have strict orders to keep you here,” he repeated. “Whatever you did… really must have pissed the King off.”

I had to think back to earlier in the morning; I hadn’t done anything to deserve this treatment. I wanted to say that to him, but another gamma appeared and whispered something in his ear.

He nodded and then looked at me.

“The carriage is ready. Get your things.”

I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my palms, creating little moons.

“I don’t have anything to bring with me,” I tell him.

He raised his brows.

“The King had said you were allowed to take the dresses and anything else given to you while you were here,” he said, cocking his head to the side. “He also wanted me to tell you that you will receive the payment soon.”

My heart stopped; he was still planning to pay me what I was owed.

That was good to know; however, the thought of taking anything else from this palace left a bitter taste in my mouth.

“I’m ready to go,” I repeated as I stepped out of the room, shutting the door behind me without giving it a second glance.

He stared at me for a moment longer before he let out a breath.

“The King won’t be happy you left all those gifts behind.”

I wanted to laugh out loud when he called them “gifts.” They were nothing more than bargaining chips. I gave him a bitter smile in return, though I knew it didn’t reach my eyes. He let out another breath before he turned and started down the hallway, expecting me to follow right after him.

At least he didn’t cuff me and forced me to walk in front of me.

walked, the second gamma, who had told this gamma that the carriage was ready, started to follow us. I let out a chortled laugh; of course, he was the one making sure I didn’t make a run for it. Why should I expect them to trust me?

My footsteps grew heavier with each step that I took.

By the time we got outside, it felt like I couldn’t breathe.
