Chapter 316

Mird Person POV

15 Bo

Princess Luciana Vandemere rested her cheek against the carriage window, watching the endless stretch of coastline roll by. The council meeting had been exhausting, and all she wanted to do was curl back into her bed and get some more sleep. She hated waking up early in the morning; she was much more of a night owl than anything.

She was angry that her mother had forced her into going in her place. All because she wanted to attend the royal wedding happening in the Northern Kingdom.

They didn’t even like the Kingsley’s, so it made no sense for them to go, but they set off late last night, and Luciana was forced to take their place in their absence.

All Luciana craved was adventure; there was such a large world around her, and she’d only seen a small part of it She wanted to travel, eat a lot of food, and do a lot of shopping… she didn’t want to have all these responsibilities that were thrown upon her.

But as of right now, what she wanted the most was silence. And yet her lady-in-waiting continued chatting happily across from her.

“…and then Lord Cedrik actually thought Lady Eleanor was flirting with him,” she laughed.

Luciana smiled faintly.

“That wasn’t her flirting with him; that was her threatening him,” Luciana commented.

“I know!”

The two women laughed quietly.

The carriage rounded another bend, following the river that empties into the sea.

Luciana absentmindedly glanced out the window. Something pale drifted through the water. At first, she dismissed it as driftwood, but then she saw long dark hair flailing across the surface and her smile disappeared.

“Stop the carriage!”

The driver didn’t react immediately.

“Your Highness?”

“You heard me. Now!” Luciana demanded, already on her feet.

The horses came to a stop, and Luciana was already opening the carriage door before it fully stopped. Her boots splashed into the damp sand as she hurried towards the riverbank.

She could feel both the driver and her lady-in-waiting rushing after her and calling her name. But once she got closer to the figure, she paused.

“There,” she said, pointing.

The driver was about to say something to Luciana, but his words died on his tongue when he spotted what she was pointing at.

“Is that a-”

“It’s a girl,” her lady-in-waiting gasped.

Charlie, Alice,” she said, turning to the two. “Please, we need to save her.”

“What if she’s already dead?” Her lady-in-waiting, Alice, asked, her eyes wide. “What will we do then?”

“Then we will report it to my father. If that’s the case, then a murder took place on his lands, and he’d need to know about it,” Luciana said with urgency.

“I’ll go in,” the driver, Charlie, said as he started to take off his coat.

Alice frowned at him when he handed her his coat, and then he kicked off his shoes. Without another word, he rushed down into the river; water splashed all over the place.

“Charlie, please be careful!” Alice called after him.

It didn’t take long for Charlie to get a grip on the girl and pull her out of the current.

Luciana watched helplessly, nibbling on her lower lip. When Charlie lifted the girl out of the water and brought her over to the edge of the bank, he placed her down and started to perform CPR.

Luciana’s heart raced in her chest, her body trembling slightly. She had never seen anyone in this state before, and she wasn’t sure what she needed to do. They were still fairly far away from the capital, so running there wasn’t in the question. Though maybe if she shifted into her wolf form, she could get there at record speed.

Her father hated it when she shifted anywhere outside of the capital because once their scent was traced, it’d be easier to find their location. Plus, it brought enemies to them, and all they wanted was to live in peace.
