The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 59

Chapter 59

“That’s kind of you. I could use a bath,” I admitted. “It’s already been such a long day.”

She smiled.

“Would you like to talk about it? I’m a good listener,” she said, also relaxing.

I would like to have someone to talk to, but I wasn’t sure if Anna was the right one. Plus, I was still having a little trouble trusting her fully, so I didn’t want her to know too much information.

My mind went to Warren; he was also a good listener and very sweet. I had to admit, he was actually becoming my best friend. I would love to talk to him right now; in fact, I almost asked Leopold if he could let Warren take control for a little bit so I could

talk to him.

But I brushed the thought out of my head as quickly as it came because it was ridiculous.

“No,” I said, giving her a small smile in return. “I think I would just like to rest.”

“Okay then. I will leave you to it,” she said, bowing quickly before she hurried down the hallway.

I stood outside my door for a moment longer, staring in the direction she ran off to. I shook my head as I turned towards my door and pushed it open. My room looked normal; nothing out of place, not that I had a lot of stuff to begin with. It looked a bit cleaner, though, so maybe she truly was in here cleaning.

I went into the bathroom and looked around as well; I still couldn’t get over how big this bathroom was. Like, who needs this much space?

Though it came in handy on days like today, when all I wanted to do was take a hot bath, the tub was in the center of the bathroom, and it looked like a hot tub. I went over to it and turned on the faucet, letting the hot water fill the tub. I grabbed some bubbles and poured a bit into the hot water. The scent of roses filled the bathroom, and I immediately started to relax.

I stripped out of my dress and placed it on the counter before stepping into the tub. The moment the water engulfed my body, I already felt better. I closed my eyes and let the water do its magic and soothe away my aching bones and the stress of today.

I tried not to think about my conversation with Jax earlier. I still felt unsettled about how he grabbed my arm, demanding that I stay and listen to him. Then, when he told me about that consort selection ceremony, I shook my head at the thought.

I knew for a fact that King Leopold was waiting for his mate; Warren had told me as much. He needed his true mate to help break the curse, and I knew that Leopold wouldn’t settle for anyone less. Once he found his mate, the concubines would be set free in exchange for payment.

I closed my eyes, breathing in the steamy air and taking in the rosy scent, but then a pounding on the bedroom door made my eyes fly open. I looked towards the bathroom door with my heart in my throat. The pounding continued after a beat, and I scrambled out of the tub, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around my body.

My body was still dripping wet, as was my hair, but whoever was at the door clearly needed to see me urgently.

With a racing heart, I ran out of the bathroom, dripping water onto the ground, and pulled the door open only to find Landon standing in front of me, with his fist out like he was about to knock again.

“Landon?” I asked.

“So, you are here,” he said, folding his arms across his chest. “Why aren’t you with the other concubines in the ballroom?”
