The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 119

Ferris's words seemed loaded with hidden meaning.

I didn't know if I was imagining things, but his tone sounded incredibly petty—a stark contrast to his usual decisive, commanding style.

Even the harshness of his tone carried a distinct trace of an interrogation.

And hidden within that interrogation was a nasal edge, adding an inexplicable layer of grievance.

Even Leon looked momentarily taken aback.

After a brief staredown between the two men, Leon scratched his head and explained, "It's not like that, Ferris. The Department of Neurosurgery is tangled up in this mess too. I just figured that clearing things up as quickly as possible would be better for the harmony between our two departments."

Ferris retracted his gaze. He cleared his throat and slipped back into his usual aloof and untouchable persona. "Dr. Lennox makes a fair point," he said slowly. "However, Dr. Hayes has already made it perfectly clear to me that the Department of Anesthesiology does not require our concern."

He cast a fleeting, disdainful glance in my direction as he spoke.

Only then did I connect his behavior to how I had chewed him out in his office yesterday. No wonder he had been walking around during rounds looking like someone owed him millions of dollars—he was still holding a grudge.

Considering our supervisor-subordinate relationship, I chose not to respond.

Leon, trying to play peacemaker, chimed in, "I'm sure Dr. Hayes was just thinking of you. She probably just didn't want to cause you any troub—"

Before Leon could finish the word, Ferris's glare pinned him down. A second later, the man snapped sharply, "If you think a peaceful resolution today is a reason to celebrate, you're dead wrong. You got lucky this time and encountered a reasonable patient and family. What about next time? Or the time after that? Do you have any idea how many patients Capital General receives from all over the country every single day? Can you guarantee every single one of them will be this agreeable? Have you still not learned your lesson?"

The lecture was so intense that I couldn't even lift my head.

He was right. If it hadn't been for Beatrice's gentle nature, this dispute wouldn't have ended so easily.
