The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 137

His long, powerful legs suddenly stepped right into my path, blocking the storage bin.

I looked up in confusion, meeting a distinctly mocking glint in his eyes.

"Dr. Hayes," he drawled, a smirk playing on his lips, "playing hard to get in the middle of the night?"

I frowned instinctively, forcing down the irritation bubbling in my chest. "You misunderstand, Dr. Sterling. I'm simply clearing out early to make room for your new addition."

He froze for a fraction of a second before adopting a careless shrug. "Is your memory failing you, Dr. Hayes? We still have over a month left. What's the rush?"

What's the rush.

I couldn't fathom how he had the nerve to ask me that.

He and Zoey had already reached the 'buying luxury real estate together' stage. What was the point of me continuing to sleep in this master bedroom?

My grip on the plastic bin tightened. Lowering my gaze, I replied in a frighteningly calm voice. "A month will be over in the blink of an eye. Besides, it's inappropriate for us to keep sharing a bed."

I tried to push past him, but he refused to budge. After a brief struggle, he suddenly leaned down. His gaze turned somber, his voice dangerously low. "We haven't signed the divorce papers yet. You're scrambling to rent an apartment and suddenly desperate to sleep in a separate bed. You wouldn't happen to have some other plans brewing, would you?"

Totally bewildered, I shot back, "What is that supposed to mean?"

"What is it supposed to mean?" Ferris's eyes dragged slowly down my body, lingering for a beat before returning to my face. "It's very simple. As long as you are Mrs. Sterling, you are expected to fulfill your marital duties. Understand?"

Our eyes locked. Only then did I realize he had been staring intently at my exposed neckline. I hurriedly reached up to pull my robe tighter, but his hand clamped around my wrist like a vice.
