The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 138

As his strong, defined hands slid to my waist, I instantly grabbed his wrists, halting any further advance.

His expression darkened, thinly veiled anger flashing across his face. But drawing on some unknown reservoir of courage, I held my ground and glared right back. Our eyes clashed like invisible swords, neither of us willing to surrender a single inch.

The deafening silence was finally shattered by the frantic ringing of his cell phone.

He shot me an irritated glare, shoved me away, and answered the call.

"What's the situation now?" His voice instantly shifted into full professional mode. "Alright. Don't panic, we're on our way."

A deep sense of dread settled in the pit of my stomach. I looked at him nervously, and he met my eyes with dead calm. "Get dressed. We're going to Greenwood Care Center."

My knees buckled slightly, all the fight draining out of me in a split second. "What happened to my dad?" I asked, terrified.

"He fell out of bed," Ferris replied flatly. "The doctors are handling it now."

Half an hour later, we burst into my father's room at the care facility. My dad was lying in the hospital bed, his right leg encased in a heavy cast and elevated. He was deathly pale.

I rushed to his side, but before I could utter a single word, Lucille's screeching voice assaulted my ears. "Why are you just getting here?! I tried calling you a dozen times and it wouldn't connect! Do you have any idea how terrified I was?!"

"What's his status?" Ferris demanded, completely ignoring her hysterics.
