Leon guided me straight to the Anesthesiology simulation lab.

Staring at the endless rows of surgical instruments, the heavy weight in my chest only grew worse.

Just two weeks ago, I never would have imagined spending my days staring down anesthesia equipment.

Leon's gentle voice pulled me back. I blinked slowly and murmured, "Difficult airway intubation."

Leon's jaw practically hit the floor. "Wait, are you serious? You've been in the department for what, two days? I know Dr. Yates likes you, but this is insane."

"You know about it?" Having my struggle validated felt incredibly comforting.

"They say physicians dread asthma, dermatologists dread psoriasis, and anesthesiologists dread intubations," Leon rattled off perfectly. "And you're literally just an intern!"

I told him the truth. "My hands shook today. I held up the surgery."

"That is completely normal," Leon said seriously, offering a reassuring smile. "If you had nailed a difficult intubation on your first try, your mentor would probably have to file for early retirement."

I let out a surprised breath, the suffocating tension of the afternoon finally melting away. Someone actually understood.

Seeing me relax, Leon kept talking. "Honestly, when I first started, Dr. Yang put me through the wringer. I lost ten pounds my first month. It was absolute hell."

Ten pounds?

I stared at his rather soft, slightly chubby face, completely speechless.

Catching my skeptical look, Leon laughed. "Hey, once I survived the internship, I had to reward myself!"

His easy humor and self-deprecating jokes worked like magic, sweeping the dark clouds from my mind.

"Trust me, this is just a hurdle," Leon said confidently. "You're brilliant. You'll nail this."
