The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 72

Seeing Leon looking so adorably awkward, I readily agreed. "You got it. I'll make it happen in the next couple of days."

Before the words had even fully left my mouth, his eyes lit up with pure joy.

A true foodie.

Thanks to Leon's reassurance, the massive weight pressing down on my chest suddenly didn't feel so crushing. After a surprisingly peaceful night, I found myself walking into The Board's Mediation Office the next afternoon alongside Dr. Logan, the head nurse, and a few others.

It was almost laughable. I was barely into my residency, and this was already my second trip to this dreaded room.

The pregnant patient's mother-in-law and husband were already there. Beside the older woman sat several unfamiliar faces, likely relatives from the husband's side based on how they were dressed.

The head nurse whispered a warning, "Looks like this old lady is dead set on extorting us. She brought her whole extended family for intimidation. We've got a tough battle ahead of us today."

Watching the older woman puff out her chest with aggressive confidence, my hard-won calm vanished, and my stomach tied itself into knots again.

Sure enough, the moment the mediation began, the woman dusted off the exact same routine she had pulled in Dr. Logan's office. This time, she played the victim perfectly, even managing to squeeze out a few tears as she hit the emotional climax of her story. "Is it a crime to be an ordinary citizen? To have a baby and get humiliated by a doctor? There's no justice in this world!"

Her neighbors chimed in, echoing her grievances and playing their supporting roles as the 'victims' to perfection.

Once the woman finished her performance, the mediator pulled up the security footage from the operating room. He detailed the critical emergency the patient had been in and provided the testimonies of the two obstetric nurses, which specifically included the moment the older woman violently yanked my hair. The mediator even added a few words in my defense.

In a flash, the older woman shot up from her chair. Pointing a trembling finger right at my face, she shrieked, "You doctors just cover up for each other! I'm calling the media right now! I'm calling The Medical Board! I'm going to sue all of you!"

Her outburst was the signal. The rest of her relatives surged to their feet. Some slammed their hands on the table, others began shouting at the top of their lungs. Within seconds, the solemn mediation room devolved into an absolute circus. The yelling, cursing, and desperate attempts to restore order blended into a chaotic cacophony that made my skull throb.
