The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 452

Chapter 452

Dominic’s POV

I watched Ellie come apart in slow motion from across the room, and there wasn’t a single thing I could do about

Every time I found an opening, a lull in Vivian’s nonstop chatter, a moment where I could excuse myself to the bar, anything, she found a way to force me to stay close. A hand on my arm, steering me toward some pack elder I hadn’t met. A question aimed directly at me that required an answer, right now, otherwise I’d get that look that indicated something sour was about to come.

My wolf hated every second of it. The moment we set foot in Goldenveil again and saw that look on Ellie’s face, he was furious.

Furious with Vivian. Furious with me.

Furious with all of it, just as I was.

But tonight, I planned on ending it. Once and for all. I just needed to find the right moment to finally, finally, put Vivian behind bars.

The thing was, that moment didn’t come.

The banquet was smooth and easy. Constant conversation, constantly having to play the role of an Alpha King candidate-the sitting Alpha King’s favorite, people called me. Endorsed by Alpha Monroe himself in my campaign, which was bolstered by my union with the mysterious veiled woman. Everyone wanted to talk to me, to ask about my plans for the campaign and my future office, if I won.

Everyone wanted to ask about her.

I noticed Vivian’s adoptive parents staring, saw them murmuring questions in her ear about the veil she’d never worn before.

If she answered it, I didn’t hear whatever her excuse was. Then again, I was too focused on Ellie, watching her out of the corner of my eye.

When she left the room, head held high, eyes filled with tears when they briefly met mine, I knew I had to talk to her. I hadn’t had a single opportunity to see her all day, to explain what was going on, and Goddess knew I couldn’t use my damn phone up here. And her friends were looking at me like I was a betrayer.

Maybe I was.

I stood while Vivian was busy. She glanced at me, and I muttered something about the bathroom and slipped away before she could stop me that time.

I didn’t make it halfway across the room before Terence caught my arm.

“Dominic.” His eyes flashed, like he knew exactly what this whole thing was costing his daughter. He didn’t know the truth of it, but he knew what he saw, and that was enough. The disappointment in his eyes was clear.” A word, if you don’t mind.”
