The Lycan's Forbidden Mate novel Chapter 144

Her gaze shifted back to the drawing before lurching downward to the text underneath it. The writing was done in ink, just like the drawing. The handwriting, though, was distinct. 1

‘You don’t need to be alarmed, Nikolai; I, Ophelia Viadislav, will always protect you.’

Ophelia felt her mouth turn dry. “W… what?”

A familiar dark presence suddenly filled the room and a gentle murmur followed. “I drew it, and you wrote that. However, don’t be shocked because royals usually make sure their children start learning to read and write as soon as they learn to speak.”

Ophelia fully sprung to her feet before turning to face Nikolai. He was dressed in a loose-fitting gray shirt and baggy slacks. He did not appear

like this when he left her.

She was unsure which question to ask first. The wall, the issue he had gone to settle, the hidden room…

She approached him without saying anything and fiercely hugged him because she was still quite upset about the shackles.

Nikolai smiled as he gave the hug back. “How did you find this room?”

“I can’t believe you’re asking me that.” Ophelia grumbled.

“You skipped the others.” Nikolai snorted.

“Others?” Ophelia released him from the hug and glared at him. “You weren’t going to tell me about this?”

Nikolai walked past her, squatted and pointed at the writings that were written with blood. “Look!” He said dully.

Ophelia stared at him, raising her brow. “Nik… Did you write all that with your blood?”

“Resentment.” Nikolai muttered, pursing his lips.

Ophelia sighed and squatted next to him, staring at the words he was pointing at.

‘I injured Vlad today. Aunt Tiana made me do it.’

‘I had dinner with my family today. It wasn’t as exciting as I thought. They kept staring at me.’

‘I want to get out of here. I’m terrified.’

‘She won’t let me kill myself. Death is a better escape route than this.’

Ophelia grabbed Nikolai’s hand but he took control and clasped hers. “I think we should stop reading this.”

“Why? It brings back memories of all that happened three hundred years ago.” Nikolai said with a smile that didn’t look like a happy smile due to his blazing eyes. The darkness and the bloodlust made the chill increase.

“What happened here, Nikolai?” Ophelia enquired anxiously.

“Tiana designed this space. I received specialized training here.” Dullly responding, Nikolai helped her stand up by bringing her up onto his feet.

“Trained specifically for what?” Ophelia inquired with care and slowly. She was dreading the response to that query.

“Her magic. My negative emotions were intensified by her influence over me more than they should have been, but my hunger was intensified the greatest, and she exploited that.” Ophelia realized that Nikolai was becoming uncomfortable as he continued to speak, yet she was still curious despite the change in his expression.

“There are shackles in here, Nikolai.” She hissed.

“It was a lot of pressure, but I grew used to it.” He said, slowly cocking his

head to the side.

Ophelia clenched her jaw. “I’m going to murder her.”

Surprised, Nikolai’s eyebrows sprang up. “What?”

“She subjected you to so many awful things! Imprisoning you here, shackling you, turning your entire family against you, she scarred you!” Ophelia cried out.

“But you promised to protect me.” Nikolai muttered, a lovely smirk forming on his lips. “Darling, you saw something you shouldn’t have, right here. Do not ask any more questions, please.”

Ophelia’s eyes widened. “What? You mean it was… What is the drawing about?”

“We became friends!” Nikolai chuckled, his voice heightened with

excitement.

“This makes me uncomfortable. “Why don’t you just describe what I saw

to me?”

“Because it would be pointless for me to have deleted your memories in the first place, and you…”

“I am not going to hate you Nikolai.” Ophelia cut in with a deep growl.

“I cannot guarantee that.” Nikolai hissed, his eyes blazing darkly. “I cannot guarantee that you won’t leave me. That’s the risk I am not willing to take.”

“We became friends, you even brought me in here, we made some kind of promise… All this is just making me more…”

“Your curiosity will lead you to hating me, Ophelia.” Nikolai growled, his

eyes suddenly flashing in their thick black demon form. “Please.”

Ophelia swallowed. The chills increased but his touch on her cheeks were starting to heat her up.

“You are afraid that I’ll end up hating you?” She asked gently, placing her

hands on his.

“I’m afraid that I’ll lose you.” Nikolai whispered, leaning his face close to

hers.

“Nikolai, you cannot steal my memories using that justification. As much as I want to understand you, you should also understand me. I’ll find out whatever it is you’re hiding from me, no matter what.”

At that moment, Nikolai disliked her guts.

He stole her childhood memories for a cause. He wouldn’t let that
