198 An unexpected fall

Pain’s eyes flew open and a deep snarl escaped his throat.

Sasha turned to face the guardian beast, wondering why he seemed so angry when he woke up out of nowhere.

Lev, however, got to his feet and bounded out of the room. He slammed his fist into the wall, creating a deep crack and a heavy thud. Ferocious flares emerged in his eyes, and he was panting heavily.

“Lev?” Sasha followed him.

“Ophelia… She is no longer in Celestia.” Whispering under his breath, Lev leaned away from the wall and fixed Sasha with his normal hazel gray

eyes.

Sasha was shocked, her eyes widening. “How do you…?”

She turned to see Pain scurrying off. He vanished down the corridor, and she returned her gaze to Lev, who was clearly frustrated.

“What do you mean Ophelia is no longer in Celestia?” Walking out of the room, Esmeralda asked Lev. “How is that possible when she just…”

“Are you assuming I am lying? I can no longer sense her presence!” Lev snapped, his eyes sharpening with rage and changing into their golden reptile–like form.

Esmeralda let out a startled gasp. Lev had never seemed so irate to her before. If he was this bothered…. “How could she leave all of a sudden?”

“Red moon witches!” Sasha exclaimed and began running down the hallway.

Lev and Esmeralda followed after leaving Danil and unconscious Vladimir

alone in the chamber.

Danil heaved a breath. He couldn’t care less about Ophelia leaving Celestia, it was all he wanted. As he continued to stare at Vladimir, he began to notice his lashes trembling and let out a deep sigh of relief.

“You seemed dead to me.” He muttered, relief visible on his face.

Vladimir’s eyes snapped open, widening in horror. He pushed himself into a sitting position, grabbing Danil’s shoulder. “We must depart now!”

“Huh?!” Danil asked, looking shocked and utterly surprised. Mostly because Vladimir could speak.

“This is something you need to take seriously! We must depart now!” He yelled and jumped out of bed.

“Leave? This is our home.” Danil was completely bewildered. He put his hand on Vladimir’s brow. “Are you alright? Did you happen to bump your

head?”

Vladimir swatted his hand away. “We must depart. At least for the time being. We can’t be here.”

Danil took a step back, raising a brow. “Is this about Nikolai?”

“FATHER!” Out of nowhere, they heard Sasha let out a loud scream.

Their eyes simultaneously transformed into their beast form. Swiftly they left the room, emerging into the throne room to discover Albert Novikov in a puddle of his own blood, in Sasha’s arms. She was screaming loudly.

Vladimir’s eyes dilated in shock. “Fa… Father!” And he hurried to them, dropping to his knees and frantically looking through Albert’s body.

Danil was horrified as he observed this. He could hear Albert’s heart beating abnormally slowly; the big hole in his stomach was causing him to lose a lot of blood. It was so horrible how his intestines were coming out.

Sasha was crying uncontrollably, attempting to heal him with her powers,

but nothing was working. “Father! Don’t, please!”

Clinging his father’s bloodied hand, Vladimir broke down in tears. “Stay with me, Father!”

“Albert!” Anastasia ran into the room, screaming. The sight of her weeping children and husband… She broke down and dropped to her knees, shrieking even louder as she ran to them. “Noooo! Nooo!”

“Mo… mother… I can not save him.” Sasha sobbed, the powerful energy she was using to cast spells causing pain throughout her entire body. She could sense that whoever had done this to her father… it was magic that had placed him in this state. He must have gotten into a struggle with

someone…

She was on her way, following the essence of the red moon witches when she heard her father growling and could feel a distinctive essence. It was mysteriously strong and dark. She had run to help her father, but she had not anticipated seeing him in this state. It was beyond anything she could have ever imagined.

“Albert… Albert, I am going to save you.” Anastasia said trembling, taking his hand in hers. Albert was holding on to a slender thread of life with his eyes barely closed, in their blue wolf like form.

When Anastasia kissed his hand, he snatched it away from her with all of his remaining strength.

“Albert!” Struck to her core, Anastasia gasped.

“Father?” Vladimir was in awe.

Albert turned his head away from his wife to focus on his children. “Do… Do… Not use forbidden magic on me.”

“Forbidden magic?” Vladimir questioned, giving his mother a fierce glare.

“I must! You can not abandon me like this!” Anastasia cried out.

Still crying uncontrollably, Sasha was met with Albert’s forced smile. “Protect everyone.” His gaze strayed to Vladimir, who was shaking his head nonstop, and his voice was weaker than before. “You underestimate your strength.”

“Stop talking, father!” Shaking his head vehemently, Vladimir sobbed. “Stop talking..! you are not leaving!”

Honestly, neither of them had a good relationship with their parents. It was always formal and related to how any family situation unfolded, which generally occurred at the dining hall. They didn’t, however, necessarily despise one another.

The life in Albert’s eyes was fading, sending panic to everyone’s soul. And as soon as his eyes closed, his body limp, Vladimir was the first to scream

out in pure agony.

While her mother Anastasia instantly passed out, Sasha froze in shock and stared at her father’s body.

Danil bowed his head and let out a deep sigh of acceptance over the death. There was no need to reject something that happened in his eyes.

Vladimir let out a growl, rose to his feet, and stormed out of the throne room. It did not take him long to arrive in front of Alina’s chamber. There were so many bodies of the handmaidens who were supposed to be standing at the entrance.

He made no reaction to the bodies. After all, he was going to kill them if he met them alive.
