Stretching out her arms, she couldn’t control the yawn that followed. She felt full, hungry, and revived.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Nikolai sitting on the edge of the bed, staring at a golden dagger he was holding. He was dressed in a loose, black linen shirt that partially exposed his chest and gasped aloud as all the memories that had brought her to this moment flashed through her mind.

The longer he stared at it, the more his fingers oozed out thick dark wisps that made her jump into a sitting position. However, the pain that surged up to her back caused her to whimper and stiffen.

She caught it without batting an eye and began fiddling with it.

“You are to blame, not me.” She muttered, her face growing red.

Laughing, Nikolai stood up and put his hands in his pockets. “Do you think you could have breakfast in the castle?”

“This is my home. I just need to find my mother to put my mind at ease.” Ophelia replied, pushing the duvet away from her body. She was not surprised that Nikolai had already bathed and dressed her for the day. He was already dressed so nicely.

Ophelia lowered her gaze and inhaled deeply. “I can not walk.”

“Oh?” Nikolai asked, a taunting smile on his face. “Would you like me to cradle you in my arms?”

“I believe Rodion has already suffered enough trauma.” Ophelia deadpanned.

“Not nearly enough.” Nikolai tsked, scooping her into his strong arms.

Ophelia smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck. “May I take you on a tour of the city?”

Nikolai’s eyes twinkled slightly, causing her to tilt her head in wonder.

“Or… Do you intend to…

“Can we discuss this later? Let’s start with finding your mother.” Nikolai cut in right away, his gaze drawn to the door.

Ophelia’s smile faded. “We are not going anywhere.”

Nikolai smiled, leaning forward and pressed his brow against his brow, closing his eyes. “It could be.”
