207 Sun goddess?

“This–what is this?!” Perched on his throne, Rodion let out a furious yell.

Directly before him, on his knees, was Lev, bowing his head.

Two burly guards were gripping Esmeralda by her arms and her hair was rumpled, giving the impression that she had been struggling for some time.

“Ophelia?” Lev gasped and turned to see his sister curled up in the demon lycan’s arms.

“Lia!” Esmeralda cried out, her expression and voice laden with relief.

“Esme?” Ophelia was in utter shock.

Nikolai slowly helped her to her feet, but as she took a step forward, she completely lost her balance.

Grinning, Nikolai put his arms around her waist to support her weight on her wobbling legs.

“You are okay!” Esmeralda drew in sharp breath. “Now I can finish this.”

Her hands suddenly erupted into an amber glow that blasted both of the guards holding her. As soon as they both lost consciousness, she ran to embrace Ophelia.

“Careful.” Nikolai let go of his wife, knowing that her friend would notice and help her predicament.

“Why are you in this place?” Startled by Esmeralda’s presence, Ophelia

asked.

“We have been here ever since you were sent here.” Lev got up, muttering with a serious expression on his face.

“Is that so?” Esteban’s voice boomed into the castle, and he walked in with a

small smile on his lips.

Lev huffed, his eyes transforming into their golden reptile–like form. “How come you did not mention Nikolai Novikov presence in the castle?” He snapped, returning his gaze to Rodion, who was clearly enraged.

“You have turned rebellious! Following in your siblings‘ foolish footsteps!” Rodion confronted him.

Lev balled his fists. “I was merely kneeling to soften my approach so you would not hurt my sister! Do not speak as though you know anything about

me.”

Rodion furrowed his scowl even more and directed an angry glance at his daughter. “What did you do to your brother?!”

“You seem unwell. Stop talking.” Nikolai hissed at the dragon king, his eyes darting dangerously.

Immediately taken aback by the disrespect, Rodion held back his words.

Ophelia parted from Esmeralda and embraced Nikolai’s arm. “Don’t.”

Nikolai nodded slowly, looking down at her.

“Why did you fail to mention his presence? Are you planning to ensnare me in this place?!” Lev furiously questioned Rodion.

“If you and the dark fairy have been present in Fireria all along, why didn’t you two storm into the castle right away? Why this moment?” Strolling to stand before Esmeralda, Esteban asked. “The dissatisfaction your kind feel towards you will only grow. You never cease to be a source of shame. You are nothing more.”

Fury filled Esmeralda’s eyes. “How dare…”

“Esteban!” Ophelia bellowed.

“What?” Esteban shot her a slack look.

A horrible shiver went down Ophelia’s spine and she firmly closed her mouth. She had nothing but agony to deal with these past few days! Occasionally, Esteban would visit her and force the sunstone into her abdomen, pressing it up against her internal organs while he waited for it to do something!!

She lowered her head, her eyes trembling, her grip tightening on Nikolai’s

arm.

Lev, Esmeralda, and Nikolai were all in complete disbelief at her response.

“Firestorm?” Cradling her face and bringing her gaze up to his, Nikolai

called.

He detested the fear in her eyes. However, she shook her head, silently telling him to do nothing.

Lev tightened his fist and turned to face Rodion. “What are you planning to

do? She is your child!”

Rodion remained silent. His already deep scowl only became more

pronounced.

“Lev?” At last, Ophelia gave a call.

Lev raced down the stairs and confronted her, fixating on her with a worried expression. “Are you doing okay? What did he do to you?”

“Mother. Is she okay?” Ophelia questioned right away.

Lev let out a heavy sigh. “She is… She is in capable hands.”

Those words brought Ophelia a great sense of relief, and she narrowed her eyes at Esteban, who was glaring at her with a murderous intensity. “You

will be sorry for what you did to me!”

Esteban snorted. “Absurd!” Subsequently, he took the sunstone out of his pocket and directed it towards her face.

Ophelia’s pupils grew wide. Her hazel gray eyes suddenly changed to a golden tone without any reptile slits, and the tips of her hair became flaming, living flames.

Esteban’s eyes gleamed. “Yes!!!”

Nikolai, Esmeralda, Lev, and even Rodion were taken aback.

“N.. NOOO!” Ophelia let out a scream and violently pushed Nikolai away, sending him hurtling across the room and landing on his feet with a panting, heavy breath.

“What are you doing?!?” When Esmeralda cried out, she ran to grab Ophelia’s arm, but Lev grabbed hers right away and pulled her away from Ophelia.

“Don’t! She will kill you.” He was firm in his warning.

“What?!” Esmeralda gave him a startled look.

Lev sucked in a breath. “The purpose of that stone is to call forth the sun goddess, the guardian of the golden dragons. Goddess Ophelia.”

Shock flickered through Esmeralda’s eyes. “Wh..what? How on earth is that possible?!”

Lev shook his head. “This is not good. It is unstable. We have to leave here.”

Esmeralda yanked her arm away in an instant. “Do not even consider leaving her here.” And in her hands, her bow appeared, shrouded in a gray

mist.

Lev looked in complete disbelief. “What are you up to?”

“Nikolai!” Drawing her bowstring, Esmeralda cried out. An arrow appeared, also shrouded in grey mist.

Nikolai got to his feet and fixed his gaze on Ophelia who continued to dig her fingers into her hair while yelling and screaming as though she were in

great pain.

Esmeralda let go of the arrow, her amber eyes gleaming. The arrow took on an amber tint and glow in time as it shot into Esteban’s back, out of his stomach.

Blood spurted from his nose and ears, his eyes widening. “I.. it will not be in vain!” he choked out a drop of blood, throwing the sunstone across Ophelia’s forehead.

That being said, an odd thing occurred. The stone did not bounce off her forehead; rather, it adhered to it like a magnet, shining brighter and brighter until her veins showed through, absorbing a similar golden glow.

Esteban collapsed to his knees, laughing hysterically while coughing up blood. “Even if I perish! The deed has been done!”

Ophelia collapsed to her knees with an even louder scream.

“Ophelia!” Lev bolted in her direction.

Thick mist suddenly enveloped the space, bringing with it a foreboding darkness and a heavy, oppressive presence that revealed nothing but a bloodthirsty rage.

Esteban’s laughter ceased. Rodion’s scream suddenly echoed loudly in the darkness but hauntingly stopped, leaving Ophelia’s piercing scream the only sound audible in the darkness.

Lev halted and gasped for air as he attempted to see through the haze. He balled his fists until blood spurted out, and his golden reptile–like eyes turned into dancing flames in an instant.

“Ophelia!” Now that he could see in the dark, he yelled out, and his eyes

narrowed.

He was so agitated that he could not reveal his true abilities. He did not want to be found out. Not ever. For the time being, he could only see
