214 Pain to the rescue
Gritting his teeth, Nikolai narrowed his eyes at the large hole his wife had punched into the window above. Ophelia pushed him away without
hesitation. Again.
He stood up with a grunt. “Does this count as karma?” He was coming to
terms with his situation.
Focusing his gaze on the hole, his heart grew heavier by the second. She really doubted him. She did not believe him. Nevertheless, he vanished, appearing precisely in the space where the window was broken.
She was nowhere to be seen. His expression deepened.
“Pain.” He called, his bloodied hands clenched.
The tiger phoenix immediately materialized next to him, seeming to have been roused from a glorious slumber.
“Find her but if you run into him, you are welcome to put him in a critical condition.” Nikolai ordered sternly, his eyes darkening.
A flash of excitement lit up Pain’s eyes. He lazily stretched out his wings, relaxing with a deep low growl.
“I can sense some uninvited guests. What do you think I should do to them?” Nikolai asked, walking towards the window and picked up a glass. “They might be some help.”
Pain grewled, shaking his head with slight displeasure.
Nikolai’s lips quirked. “When I heard Ophelia scream, I assumed she was in danger, so I did not hurt him as much as I wanted to.”
The Tiger Phoenix’s eyes glimmered with interest.

Nikolai leaned, patting his head with a faint smile on his lips. “Now go. I will find that wretched spirit and my wife.” He vanished, leaving Pain who gracefully exited the room.
As Ophelia ascended the stairs leading to the east and west wings, she lowered her wings and followed her gaze around the mansion.
She truly expected to see body trails. After all, Nikolai had informed her that he had been attacked by brainwashed dragons.
As she stepped into the west wing, which was much darker and more gloomy than she had anticipated, she noticed a slight sensation of coldness against her skin.
Her golden wings glinted in the shadows. She was breathing heavily and stiffly, and could not shake the fear that she would find Lev in a terrible
state.
No bodies, no bloodstain, no intimidation.
What in the world was happening?
The guardian spirit was merely a made–up character used in books and scrolls to discipline children. Yes, it resembled the child of doom’s prophecy, but the child of doom was real!
But this…
Ophelia was still baffled.
Nonetheless, she continued to walk for what seemed like an eternity.
The longer she walked, the darker the corridor became. Though she could see perfectly well in the dark thanks to her blazing eyes, there was still no sign of any bodies.
Stepping around a corner, she entered the lighter section of the corridor.

Her ears became aware of heavy breathing.
“Lev? Where are you? This is not funny.” Her tone was harsh.
Just outside the door of a large empty hall, she noticed blood splattered on the floor.
Her pupils dilated in shock. “Lev?!” Panic filled her voice.
She entered, following the trail of blood that led to a full pool with no obvious source. The room was empty. Nonetheless, judging by the blood and the severely cracked walls, it was obvious that there had been a struggle.
She was amazed as she followed her gaze around every angle, noticing that even the floors had strong fissures and… Her gaze hardened.
“Claw marks.” She hissed deeply. “This is not a good sign.”
“Ophelia Viadislav.” Just behind her, a voice snapped to life. A feminine voice, both innocent and unsettling at the same time.
With her expression bereft of fear, Ophelia turned to face the spirit who was smiling brightly in front of her.
“You are conscious.” she said. “I do not see your husband anywhere.”
“And I do not see my brother anywhere.” Ophelia muttered calmly, her wings vanishing. “Are you blind? Do you not see the blood all over the floor?”
The spirit laughed. “How come you look so irate?” Then, her expression became grave. “Should I claim that the blood belongs to me, will you believe me? Uh, Will you?”
“Whose blood is this?” Ophelia asked, not wishing to engage in a fruitless dialogue with a malevolent entity.
“Oh. The hostility. You must already be aware of who I am.” The spirit

laughed again. “Trust me. Your continued existence astounds me greatly. I expected more from the dark fairy. Given how powerfully her magic
combines elements of both light and dark magic.”
Ophelia’s dagger materialized and instantly transformed into a flaming sword. “My brother. Now.”
The spirit froze. Her brown eyes fixed on the sword, her expression solemn.
Ophelia remained unfazed.
The spirit spoke gravely, maintaining her gaze on the flaming sword, saying, “I have grown fond of your dear husband, Ophelia Viadislav. I am a little hesitant though. After all, he is an incarnation of the supreme Master blood moon god.”
Ophelia tightened her jaw. “Say no more, you nasty spirit.”
