217 A negative tension
“Nikolai desires your death. But he can’t. Because I have no desire to see the corpse of my own brother.” She muttered, her face solemn, her tone harsh. “Whatever happens to me is none of your concern, and whatever happens to you is none of mine. This is the last time we will be together.” ↑
Her voice broke. She brought her head down. “We are no longer…”
Nikolai rushed over to her and pulled her in. She buried her face in his chest
and bursted into tears.
“N.. no I… Ophelia.” Lev wanted to go to her. But he could not move a
muscle.
He did not even know how to move a muscle at that point. He… did not know what to say. He snapped his mouth shut, shut his eyes, and vanished, leaving only ragged embers that went out in an instant.
For a long time, Nikolai gazed at that spot. Holding his wife close, he closed his eyes, feeling every tremble of hers, hearing every whimper, every sob, every vendetta.
Danil stood at the castle entrance, staring at this scene in disbelief. A moment ago, the spirit was in his grasp, but she disappeared the instant Lev disappeared. The course of events truly took a turn.
Giving them some quiet time to themselves, he shrugged his shoulders and walked away. What he didn’t expect was a demon hovering over an angry looking dark fairy.
Without displaying any astonishment, he bit his bottom lip. “What is happening here?”
Esmeralda was immediately aware of his presence. “W…what?!” Her cheeks flushed. “Get away from me!” She yelled at Rhaziel, who was completely

unfazed.
“Just after I broke a deadly spell, you bit my arm. Apologize.” He said sternly.
That statement made Esmeralda scowl. “I did not bite you all that hard. I bit you, but there is no bruise to show for it.”
“Apologize.”
“Never.” Esmeralda hissed, glaring daggers at him.
Rhaziel tightened his jaw. “How about I restore the spell? And intensify it? You might end your own life.”
Esmeralda became enraged. “What the hell?!? Get away from me!” And she slammed her fist into his chest, attempting to push him away.
Unfortunately, he did not budge as she had hoped.
Danil chuckled. “At long last, a delightful drama.” And he leaned against the wall, his face becoming drab. “Where have you been, Rhaziel?”
The demon’s eyes twinkled dimly. “You have finally awoken.”
“I have always been awake. But mostly when fucking those busty she wolves.” Danil replied with a sly grin.
“Huh?!” Esmeralda questioned, utterly shocked. She turned to look at Danil, but before she could get a good look at him, Rhaziel smirked at her response and covered her eyes with his hands.
“Remain blind,” he uttered.
“Get off!” Esmeralda huffed and slammed his hard chest even harder, pushing her away from him.
Rhaziel landed beside him, taken aback by the unexpected strength with
which she had pushed him. He shifted his gaze to her, watching her stand up. She was still glaring at him.

Danil guffawed. “It is not often that I see you down there, Rhaziel.”
Rhaziel got to his feet. Sweeping the snow flakes from his body. “Reduce your arrogance.”
“What is wrong with your eyes?” Esmeralda asked Danil.
“Oh?” Danil questioned, transforming his crimson eye into a crimson wolf–like form. “Is this better?”
A dull look crossed Esmeralda’s face. “No.” Then she frowned at Rhaziel. “How long was I out?”
“Short enough.” He gave a somber reply.
“Where is Ophelia? I.. After Nikolai handed her to me.. I can not recall. Everything went black.” Muttering under her breath, Esmeralda rubbed her forehead, trying to recall what had transpired while she was under this deadly spell Rhaziel had spoken of.
“You made an attempt to murder her.” Rhaziel casually revealed, putting his hands in his pockets. “I am not sure about Nikolai, but she might forgive you.”
“What?” Esmeralda could not believe her ears.
Rhaziel moved in closer, patting her shoulder. “Apologize, and I will protect
you.”
Completely irritated, Esmeralda pushed his hand away. “Did I do something wrong that made you vanish without telling me?!” Her amber eyes twisted in annoyance.
With a vague desire to say something to her, Rhaziel opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out.
That fact infuriated Esmeralda. She looked back at Danil. “Where are they?”
“There.” He pointed to the corner that led to the main entrance’s yard.

“Thank you.” She walked away.
Rhaziel pressed his lips to Danil, who was giving him a mocking smile. “What?” His expression dulled as he asked.
“It seems like you feel bad because you hurt the dark fairy.” Danil questioned, raising his eyebrows.
Rhaziel blinked. “Was I supposed to tell her that I was upset with Nikolai’s decision to go on a suicide mission?”
“Perhaps.” Danil shrugged his shoulders.
“What brings you here?” Rhaziel’s expression grew serious.
“The mage summoned me. She informed me that Nikolai was in danger and brought me here.”
“Mage?” Rhaziel asked, his brow furrowed in interest.
Danil grinned. “Yes.”
Rhaziel nodded slowly. “Let’s go.” They then strolled back towards the garden.
Esmeralda and Ophelia were hugging. Nikolai, on the other hand, appeared to be irritated by Esmeralda’s presence.
