221 Back to the imperial castle

The following day, four carriages pulled out of the royal mansion and drove through the bustling imperial city towards the castle.

The news that the Alpha king and his Luna were returning unharmed had already reached the castle. And to direct the carriages until they reached the castle, Viktor dispatched a sizable brigade of warriors.

In the third carriage which rode in a straight line with the others, Ophelia was fast asleep in Nikolai’s arms, while he was wide awake, lost in his thoughts and her warmth.

They had devised a scheme to use him as bait in order to kidnap some red moon witches. However, it had a flaw. A drawback with the sunstone that he strongly opposed using. Knowing the impact it had on Ophelia, he did not want anything to happen to her.

Nikolai smiled faintly, taking a deep breath, his eyes flashing into their thick

black demon form. ‘Ziel.‘

‘Are you okay?‘

Admiring his spouse in his arms, Nikolai bit down his lower lip. ‘Should I offer an apology?‘

‘Don’t. You are going to end up doing it again.’

Nikolai blinked. ‘Even if I do nothing, I will eventually become controlled.‘

Nikolai scowled. ‘Is it credible to convey that I do not really give a damn?‘

‘Your method of protection is extremely unsettling. You are satisfying and sacrificing yourself.’

‘It is known as killing two birds with one stone.‘ Nikolai twisted his lips, nonchalantly.

‘How long have you been planning this?‘

‘For a while, why?‘ Nikolai closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

‘We need a face–to–face conversation. Something seems off!

‘Hmm.‘ Opening his eyes, Nikolai returned them to their crimson wolf form. His eyes slowly dilated as he twisted his lips, displaying extreme insanity. “The plan is to destroy all of my enemies. Including all of the gods. I do not care if Celestia falls in the process.”

Meanwhile, in Danil’s carriage, which was the carriage riding in front, he held a smoke pipe between his teeth, his eyes glinting in tandem with the smoke puffing out.

“Valerian,” he called sourly, removing the smoke pipe from his mouth.

The blood moon good appeared, frowning and sitting next to him. “What?”

“Do you recall what we discussed when you appeared in the Mage’s

Mansion with Vladimir and Boris?” With an air of intimidation, Danil asked, blowing out smoke.

Valerian’s frown deepened. “Yes, why?”

“I do not want to be a part of it.” Danil said, returning the pipe to his lips.

Valerian was taken aback. “Why?”

“Nikolai wants the ability to destroy us gods. If we follow through on this, he will destroy everyone else aiding Nessa, including innocent us.” Nonchalantly, Danil revealed. “To be honest, I have never really wanted to get involved with the master’s incarnation. I merely wanted to watch him grow up.”

Valerian resumed his frown. “You were the first to learn that the others

were granting the mortal abilities to revive the master’s soul. You had the opportunity to stop them, but instead you ended up like this.”

Puffing out another round of thick smoke, Danil shrugged his shoulders. “At least the prophecy was not made by me to caution the ignorant mortals.”

Valerian’s mouth curled. “I will continue to carry out my plan. It will help to prevent all of this devastation. He seems to be becoming more and more like a master the longer I look at him. He has an insatiable thirst for destruction, causing needless harm without considering the consequences

to others.”

Danil guffawed. “That was his constant state until he encountered the sun goddess. Forgetting about himself, he defended us against that fire god. He still acts like a fool by using himself as a shield.”

Valerian released a sigh. “It is best if we keep them apart, Danil. The prophecy will be fulfilled. He is a child of doom, and nothing will change that unless he decides to take a different route.”

Danil’s expression grew serious. “I will do everything in my power to keep him, the dragoness, and my family safe. You do your best if you believe it is right.”

“All right, then,” Valerian said with a respectful bow before disappearing

from view.

Danil let out a long, heavy breath, his nostrils and lips emitting smoke. “He simply cannot be with her. He is aware of this, so why can’t he just let her go?”

They arrived in front of the castle, the warriors standing upright, their faces stern and proud.

Standing in front of the main entrance were Sasha, Viktor, Vladmir, Boris, and Yulia Novikov, all of whom had distinct expressions on their faces.

Slowly, the guards approached the carriage doors and opened them.

Grinning, Esmeralda descended the stairs with grace, holding onto her

dress.
