“Why did you do that?” Devin questioned, pawing through his hair.
Alina, seated on her bed, opened her mouth to speak. “I…”
“No, no, no! Your response will not make things better! Do you understand why? Because you will wind up lying, Alina.” Devin said, clearly frustrated. “Alexander and Albert, they are all gone. And just like Alexander desired, you forced the dragoness to return to Fireria against her will. For what purpose?”
Alina sighed deeply, tears welling up in her olive–green eyes. “There is something, I…”
Devin heaved a breath. “Stop. Just stop.”
Alina’s eyes widened. “Do you believe that I am the villain in this situation?”
“You do not have my trust! You have never had my trust! You are the oracle, but you do not get involved in any significant matters! And, like Alexander, you favor power over life. Brittle life.” Devin exploded. “You gave birth to the child of doom for that reason.”
Alina lowered her head, clutching her dress.

Without saying anything more, Devin left her chamber only to see Yulia walking by carrying a plate containing a piece of cake.
She paused and bowed at him, beaming brightly at his sight. “What a beautiful morning, uncle. Will you be joining us for breakfast?”
Devin forced a smile to come across his face. “Beautiful morning, dear.” And without returning her question, he walked away.
Yulia gazed at him with wide eyes, observing him until he was out of sight. “What is the matter with him?” Her eyes strayed to Alina’s door as she

asked. “Is everyone feeling anxious because tomorrow night is the blood
moon?”
“Yulia?” Astonished by the cake she held, Boris walked up to her.
“Brother.” Yulia gave him a bright smile.
Boris swiped the cake from her. “It is early in the morning, and the first thing you think about is cake. Your diet needs to change for the better.”
Yulia pouted innocently. “But I am eating well.” Subsequently, she snatched her cake. “Are you anxious about tomorrow night as well? After all, it is Nikolai’s birthday, and the blood moon is a night of great evil.”
Boris purged his throat. “Why are you giving that so much thought?”
Yulia scoffed. “I am heading to have breakfast.” And she left, Danil trailing
close behind.
When Yulia arrived at the dining room, which was already occupied by everyone save Devin and Alina, she sat down right away, and Boris followed suit grudgingly.
An assortment of foods adorned the table. And nobody said a word, save for the clattering dishes.
Yulia took a bite of cake, slurping it down with wine, and exhaled a satisfied breath that made everyone look at her.
“Are you all worried about tomorrow night?” Grinning, she turned to face Nikolai, the only person not staring at her. Rather, he was preoccupied with feeding his dear wife.
“There is nothing to worry about.” Danil said as he casually sipped his wine.
“But I have a queasy feeling.” Shrugging another spoonful of cake into her mouth, Yulia muttered.

“For once, as a family, we are eating dinner together without acting like barbaric animals Yuha, please do not ruin this moment.” Sasha said with a slight frown on her face,
Yulia puckered her lips. “I apologize.” Then she smiled brightly at Ophelia, who was smiling at her beloved husband.
Oh, sweet love. She pondered.
Gazing at her own reflection in the mirror, Ophelia inhaled deeply as she observed her eyes transform into their reptilian form.
It had been a calm couple of days. Too calm.
She turned to face the bed that Nikolai had been sleeping on.
Never once had they discussed the drama that awaited them after they got
back from all of the drama.
“Nik?” She called, tilting her head to the side.
“Hmm.” Nikolai let out a drowsy moan.
Ophelia grinned. He only made the decision to go to breakfast, shirking all of his duties for the day.
She stood up, holding onto her dress. “Do you feel ill?”
“No.” Nikolai spoke back right away, his deep voice resonating languidly.
Puffing air into her mouth, Ophelia climbed into bed and leant her face against his. “Are you certain?”
“Yes.” Again, Nikolai answered, his dark crimson eyes fluttering open to meet her golden ones.
He grinned at how adorable she was. “Why do you ask, darling?”

“Because tomorrow night is not something you are discussing.” Ophelia responded, pouting her lips.
“If you really think about it, we might not make it to tomorrow night.” Nikolai said, putting his hand to her cheek. “I only want to stay in this bed with you in my arms.”
Ophelia turned red in the face. “I am worried about you.”
“Oh.” Nikolai lowered his hand, his eyes widening slightly. “Is this because of Yulia’s words?”
Ophelia giggled. “No, no, I just think that you could be anxious about…”
“Shhh.” Nikolai cut in, pressing his finger to her lips.
Her eyes widened. While he responded to her concerns with a tiny smile.
He was anxious.
“Would you like to discuss it?” She questioned, ignoring his finger on her lips.
Nikolai raised his brows, slowly removing his finger from her lips. “Would you like me to discuss it?” And he took a gentle hold of her chin and looked at her as if she were a treasure that he had finally discovered.
Ophelia smiled. She collapsed onto Nikolai, festing her head on his chest as he quickly wrapped his arms around her body.
“It is fine to feel anxious about tomorrow night. The blood moon, blood pearl, blood moon deities, red moon witches, T…”
“It hurts.” Nikolai interjected, his voice dark and deeper than usual.
“What hurts?” Ophelia looked up into his face.
Nikolai remained silent. His face, however, was contorted with distress.
“Lai Lai?” Startled, Ophelia raised her body to get a close look at his face,
