“What is happening?!” Esmeralda let out a scream, shielding her ears with
her hands as she turned to face him.
“It is fine!” He raced over to embrace her.
Guiding her large eyes toward the windows, Esmeralda held onto his coat. Though the curtains were being wildly blown by the wind, it was the loud sound that drew her attention. The sound was like an endless stream of tiny droplets hitting the ground without any remorse.
“What is… what is happening?”
Rhaziel loosened his hold on her. “I…”
Esmeralda used her magic to close the first two windows, but she was startled to see water splashing in when she went to the third window.
She stepped forward, meeting an endless stream of water droplets descending to the earth face to face. Her jaw dropped, but she found herself reaching out her hands to feel the water fall onto her palm.
She laughed, her eyes welling up with excitement. “Is this what they call
rain?”
Rhaziel was staring at her from behind, frozen in shock. “Yes.”
“How is this even possible? Winter has blanketed the entire planet for countless centuries. Unless….” Esmeralda paused and turned to look at him with wide eyes. “The curse has been broken! The Ice Dragon…”
“He is not dead. The spell has simply been broken.” Rhaziel stepped in quickly.

Esmeralda sighed with relief. “Under any circumstances, nobody would wish for a whole species to go extinct. Regardless of how awful they are.”
Rhaziel granted a nod. “Indeed. But perhaps only you have that sense of thought.”
“Yes.” Esmeralda looked out again, enjoying the sensation of the water on her hand. “However, how are you certain he is alive?”
Rhaziel simply smiled. “A certain someone would have contacted me.”
Then he approached her and drew her closer to him. “If you keep doing that, you will get a cold.”
Laughing, Esmeralda closed the window with her magic. “I have never caught a cold from the harsh winter, so why would I catch one from rain?”
“This is a little different. We should not take chances.” Rhaziel responded, releasing his grip on her.
Esmeralda’s cheeks flushed. She looked at him. “Winter has ended, and the world will resume its normal seasons. But isn’t this sudden?”
“Yes, it is. However, maybe now is the right moment to break it.” Rhaziel replied.
Esmeralda nodded. “I have heard stories about Antica and the ice dragon. The ice dragons were wiped out, and the birth of the last ice dragon brought on winter.” She shivered and wiped her wet palm against her dress.
“Unfortunately, Celestia’s celebrations will not last long. The blood moon will occur tomorrow night. Ophelia…”
“You are always worried about others.” Rhaziel gazed at her, admiration in his eyes. He took her hand in his, smiling.
Esmeralda cocked her head and smiled at him. Was Rhaziel Petrov showing her an unseen side? She loved it! She loved seeing vivid emotions in his

eyes, for her.
“I could stop talking about others and concentrate on us. That is, if you wish for US to exist.” Her cheeks flushed as she spoke confidently.
Rhaziel laughed, putting his arm around her waist possessively. “I would love that.”
Esmeralda felt her heart swell. Who would have thought the demon would take a liking to her?
“Esmeralda?” was said as the door banged unexpectedly.
It was Sasha.
Rhaziel let go of Esmeralda, and she dashed to open the door, revealing a worried–looking Sasha. Rhaziel’s presence in the chamber came as no surprise to her.
“Is there a problem?” Esmeralda asked, puzzled by her worried expression.
“I have a bad feeling. I need to speak with you and Ophelia.” Sasha answered solemnly.
“Is this about the rainfall?” Rhaziel asked. “Or is this about capturing a Red Moon Witch?”
“Neither.” Sasha replied sternly. “It is about Tiana, and I do not need your presence.”
Rhaziel nodded and walked out of the chamber quietly.
Esmeralda sighed. “Sasha, he was just trying to help. He is also concerned about…”
“Rhaziel is a demon. Nikolai is a Demon Lycan. Those two are somehow connected, and I do not want to make plans that will alert Nikolai,” Sasha cut in sharply.

Esmeralda sighed. “What are you talking about?”
“To put an end to all of this, all of the chaos that will ensue tomorrow, we must find Tiana, kill her, and take the blood pearl. Danil stated that she is alive, and if she is, she will undoubtedly be found.”
Esmeralda nodded, smiling. “That is perfect. But I think it is easier said than done.”
“It is.” Ophelia stepped into the chamber, closing the door behind her.
