The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 125

Chapter One Hundred Twenty Five

Claim

The following morning, Diana woke slowly. Not to pain. Not to exhaustion. But to warmth. For a few quiet seconds, she simply stayed still beneath the blankets, staring at the ceiling above her while soft morning light filtered through the curtains of the suite Damon had given them inside the Rogue Kingdom packhouse.

Her body felt… lighter. The sharp aches from the attack were gone. The lingering heaviness from the poison had disappeared. Even the soreness from overusing her strength during the battle had faded into something faint and manageable.

Diana let out a slow breath. She had expected this. After lunch yesterday, Talon had practically forced her back into their suite.

No- not practically. He absolutely forced her. Diana could still remember the exact words.

“If you do not go rest willingly,” Talon had told her in front of Damon, Willow, Conall, and half the food hall, “then I will carry you there myself. In front of everyone.”

Diana had glared at him. Talon had stared right back without a single ounce of remorse. And unfortunately – he meant it.

Diana smiled faintly to herself at the memory. She had no choice but to agree. Though if she were being honest with herself… she had needed the rest. Not just physically. Artemis had needed it too. The poison Thorne used had not been ordinary. Even now, Diana could still remember the burning sensation spreading through her body when the earth spike pierced her side.

It had felt wrong. Ancient. Corrupted. Nothing like wolfsbane.

Slowly, Diana turned her head. And immediately softened. Talon was still asleep beside her.

One strong arm wrapped securely around her waist, holding her close against him even in sleep, like his instincts refused to allow distance between them after nearly losing her. His face rested near her neck.

Near his mark.

His expression, even asleep, looked tired. Worried. Diana’s chest tightened slightly.

“Talon,” she whispered softly.

He didn’t wake. Of course not. The Alpha King had barely slept.

Every time Diana woke during the night, even briefly, Talon had been awake beside her. Watching her. Touching her. Checking her breathing like he still feared she would disappear if he looked away too long.

“Artemis?” Diana called quietly inside their shared mind.

Her wolf responded instantly.

“I am here.”

Artemis sounded calmer now.

Rested.

“Our mate is very handsome.”

Diana snorted softly.

“You are impossible.”

“I am truthful,” Artemis corrected proudly. “Look at him.”

Cla

Diana did. And unfortunately- Artemis was right. Talon looked unfairly beautiful even while exhausted.

Dark hair slightly messy from sleep. Strong jaw relaxed. One hand still possessively curled against her

waist.

Artemis practically purred inside their shared mind.

“I love watching him.”

Diana rolled her eyes affectionately.

“You say that every day.”

“And I mean it every day. But mate was correct.”

That shifted Diana’s attention immediately.

“We needed the rest.”

Artemis stretched lazily inside their shared consciousness before continuing.

“I was exhausted from pushing the poison out of our system.”

Her tone sharpened slightly at the memory.

“That poison was different.”

Diana nodded faintly.

“It wasn’t wolfsbane.”

“No,” Artemis agreed immediately. “Wolfsbane attacks wolves directly. It weakens us, suppresses us.” A low growl. “This poison was designed to destroy from inside.”

Diana’s expression darkened slightly.

“But now,” Artemis continued, sounding more pleased, “we are fully healed.”

Diana blinked slightly.

“Fully?”

“Yes.”

Artemis sounded almost smug now.

“One hundred percent.”

That surprised Diana. The healers had told her recovery would take several days at minimum. Yet she truly did feel completely normal. No weakness. No lingering poison. Nothing. Artemis hummed thoughtfully.

“And I noticed something else.”

Diana’s attention sharpened.

“What?”

“If someone uses the same poison against us again…” Artemis paused. “I think it will affect us less.”

Diana frowned slightly.

“What do you mean?”

“It feels like…” Artemis searched for the right words. “Like our body remembers it now. While I pushed it out, our blood adapted.”

Diana slowly sat with that information.

“You think we’re building resistance?”

“Yes,”

Artemis sounded certain now.

“Like our blood learns.”

Diana stared quietly at the ceiling again.

A Silver Wolf. The title felt heavier every day. Because the more she learned- the less she actually understood.

“How can we do that?” Diana asked softly.

Artemis huffed lightly.

“I do not know.”

That made Diana smile faintly. It was strangely comforting that even Artemis didn’t have all the answers.

“Hopefully,” Diana murmured quietly, “we’ll finally get some answers from Damon.”

That sobered Artemis slightly. Diana understood why. Everything kept leading back to Damon. Not because he caused this. But because somehow- he knew things. More than anyone else seemed to.

Diana remembered how Talon had ordered the elders of Black Howler to search every archive they possessed for information about Silver Wolves. The results had been… frustrating. Ancient fragments. Incomplete records. Half-broken myths.

The only consistent facts they found were these:

Silver Wolves appeared rarely.

Sometimes centuries apart.

They were considered blessed by the Goddess.

And they possessed abilities beyond ordinary wolves.

Some were physically stronger.

Others possessed unusual healing.

And female Silver Wolves- according to every surviving text- were destined to become extraordinary

Lunas.

Protectors. Unifiers. Queens capable of strengthening entire kingdoms.

But why? No one knew.

Where Silver Wolves came from. No one knew.

Why someone like Thorne wanted her dead. No one knew.

Why Damon searched for the Silver Wolf for years. Still unknown.

And perhaps most unsettling of all-why knowledge about Silver Wolves seemed deliberately erased from history.

Diana’s thoughts darkened.

“Someone wanted Silver Wolves forgotten,” she said quietly.

Artemis growled softly.

“Yes.”

Diana’s fingers brushed unconsciously against Talon’s mark on her neck.

And then- another realization surfaced.

“If Silver Wolves truly appear every hundred years…”

Artemis immediately understood.

“Then someone has been hunting them for a very long time.”

A chill moved through Diana. Because Thorne didn’t seem surprised by her existence.

Obsessed, yes. But not surprised.

Which meant- this had happened before.

Diana’s thoughts were interrupted when Talon shifted beside her.

Almost instantly, his arm tightened protectively around her waist.

His eyes opened. The exact moment he realized she was awake, relief flooded through the bond so strongly it nearly made Diana ache.

“Mate

His voice was rough with sleep and emotion.

Diana smiled softly

“Good morning.”

Talon immediately pushed himself upright slightly, eyes scanning her face.

“How do you feel?”

Not hello. Not good morning. Straight to concern. Diana’s smile widened faintly.

“I’m fine.”

Talon narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

“Actually fine?”

“Yes.”

“You are not just saying that so I stop worrying?”

Diana reached up and touched his cheek gently.

“I’m actually fine.”

Talon studied her for several long seconds.

Then Fenrir stirred awake inside the bond.

Diana laughed softly as relief exploded through Fenrir so strongly it practically flooded the room.

“We are fine, Fenrir,” Artemis assured him immediately.

Fenrir huffed.

“Good.”

A dangerous pause followed.

“Now we kill Thorne.”

Diana blinked.

Straight to murder.

Typical Fenrir.

Talon groaned softly.

“You encourage him too much,” he muttered to Artemis.

“No,” Artemis replied proudly. “I simply appreciate his priorities.”

Diana shook her head fondly.

“You two are impossible.”

“Yet you love us,” Talon said immediately.

Diana rolled her eyes.

“Debatable.”

Talon leaned down and kissed her forehead before she could continue teasing him. The bond between them warmed instantly.

Relief.
