The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 136

Chapter One Hundred Thirty Six

Their travel from the Rogue Kingdom to the territory of the Stone Claw Pack was surprisingly uneventful. Too uneventful. No feral rogue attacks. No dark mist. No poisoned air No sign of Thorne. Not even the unsettling feeling of being watched. And somehow- that made all of them more tense.

Inside the vehicle, silence often stretched for long periods of time as forests and empty roads passed by outside the windows. No one relaxed completely. Not Talon. Not Diana. Not Damon. Not even Willow.

Because after everything that had happened-peace felt suspicious

Talon drove the first car while Damon drove the second. They barely stopped except for fuel and quick meals. Even then, their wolves remained alert, scanning every scent around them.

But nothing happened. No attack came. It almost felt as though Thorne and the feral rogues had simply vanished. Which made Diana uneasy.

“He’s planning something,” Artemis murmured inside her mind as they contínued down another dark road surrounded by trees.

“I know.”

“Too quiet.”

“Yes.”

Because enemies like Thorne did not simply disappear. Not after revealing himself. Not after attacking them directly. Not after admitting he wanted the Silver Wolf dead. The silence felt deliberate. Calculated. Like the calm before a storm.

By the time they finally neared the borders of the Stone Claw territory, the sky had already darkened completely. The moon hung high above the forest, silver light spilling across the empty road ahead.

Willow stretched slightly in her seat and sighed. Listening to Talon and Damon’s conversation over the speakerphone.

“It’s late. Almost midnight.”

“We are not arriving at Stone Claw this late,” Talon said immediately.

No one argued. Not because they were tired- though they were- but because arriving in another pack territory in the middle of the night while already suspecting foul play sounded like a terrible idea.

Especially when Vanessa and possibly Rafe were waiting there.

“We’ll stay the night at the nearest town,” Damon agreed.

Diana leaned back slightly against the seat.

“That would probably be safer.”

Talon looked toward her immediately.

“You tired?”

Diana gave him a look.

“I was poisoned by a cursed witch less than two weeks ago, Talon. Obviously I’m tired.”

Fenrir instantly became offended.

“She is using sarcasm again.”

“She learned it from Willow.”

“Bad influence.”

Diana snorted softly, clearly hearing Fenrir.

Willow looked suspicious immediately.

“Why do I feel like I’m being blamed for something?”

“Because you usually are,” Damon answered calmly.

Willow gasped dramatically.

“You wound me.”

“You survived Talon as a brother. You’ll survive this too.”

Talon looked completely unbothered.

“She does have experience.”

Willow narrowed her eyes.

“I can still leave both of you on the side of the road!”

“You would miss me,” Damon replied instantly.

Willow opened her mouth- then stopped. Damon smirked slowly.

“That silence sounds like love.”

“That silence sounds like me considering murder.”

Diana laughed softly while Talon shook his head.

For a brief moment- things felt almost normal. Almost peaceful. Which made the tension underneath even stranger. Eventually, they reached a small town just outside Stone Claw territory and booked two rooms in a discreet hotel for the night.

The town itself was quiet. Small. Mostly asleep. The kind of place no one would look at twice. Which made it perfect. Talon immediately checked every corner of the room before allowing Diana inside. Diana crossed her arms while watching him.

“You know no assassin is hiding behind the curtains, right?”

“That sounds exactly like something an assassin hiding behind curtains would want me to believe.” Diana rolled her eyes.

You’re impossible.

She could not even argue with that. Once they were finally inside and the door locked, Talon visibly relaxed slightly for the first time all day. Only slightly. Diana sat near the edge of the bed while removing her boots slowly.

Artemis stirred lazily.

“Our mate worries too much.”

“He nearly lost us.”

“That is true.”

Diana’s expression softened slightly as she watched Talon pacing near the window while talking quietly on the phone.

“Enzo,” she guessed.

Talon nodded once without looking at her. A few moments later, he finally ended the call and turned toward her.

“Enzo and the Royal Guards will arrive in the morning.”

Diana nodded slowly.

“Good.”

Talon sat beside her now, though his posture remained tense. Diana studied him carefully.

“You’re worried.”

“Yes. That obvious?”

“To me? Always.”

That made something soften in his eyes immediately. He reached for her hand automatically. Diana intertwined their fingers gently.

“Does Enzo think Vanessa and her mate have any idea what’s coming tomorrow?” Diana asked quietly.

Talon shook his head.

“No. In fact, this probably looks normal to them.”

Diana raised an eyebrow slightly.

“Normal?”

“Yes.” Talon leaned back slightly. “If the Alpha King attends another pack’s ceremony, Royal Guards are expected. It would actually look more suspicious if I arrived without them.”

Diana hummed thoughtfully.

“Especially with me beside you.”

“Exactly.”

Because everyone knew the Luna Queen of the Royal Pack was valuable. Important. Protected. No ruler would travel carelessly with their mate. Especially not the Alpha King. Diana relaxed slightly at that explanation.

“What about the other allied packs?” she asked after a moment. “Do they know we’ve been staying in the Rogue Kingdom all week?”

Talon shook his head again.

“No.”

That caught her attention.

“No?”

“Enzo handled every inquiry personally.”

Talon’s lips curved slightly.

“He made sure no one had any reason to believe we weren’t inside Black Howler territory.”

Diana blinked once before smiling brightly.

“Super Enzo for the win.”

Talon immediately narrowed his eyes. Diana noticed instantly. Then burst out laughing.

“You’re jealous.”

“I am not jealous.”

“You absolutely are.”

“I simply do not understand why you sound so excited while talking about another male.”

Diana stared at him in disbelief.

“You’re jealous of Enzo?”

Fenrir grumbled inside Talon.

“She called him super.”

“He’s our Beta.”

“She sounded impressed.”

“She is impressed because he’s competent.”

Fenrir huffed.

“We are also competent.”

Diana laughed harder now because Fenrir clearly was not blocking his thoughts from her.

“Oh my Goddess,” she said between laughs. “You two are unbelievable.”

Talon crossed his arms.

“We are protective.”

“You are ridiculous.”

“You still love us.”

Diana smiled softly then leaned toward him.

“Yes,” she admitted quietly. “I do.”

That instantly destroyed whatever jealousy remained. Fenrir purred proudly inside Talon.
