Chapter One Hundred Fifty Three

Elder Garrick slowly rose from his chair, the room falling into complete silence as every pair of eyes settled on him. The weight of centuries of law and tradition seemed to rest on his shoulders as he looked directly at Vanessa.
Gone was the proud she-wolf who had once strutted through the Black Howler Pack believing she would one day become Luna to the Alpha King. Gone was the entitled daughter of Alpha Charles and Luna Carla who believed the world would bend to her wishes.
In her place sat a broken young woman.
“Vanessa,” Elder Garrick began, his voice calm but firm. “Before the Elder Council announces its final judgment, I will ask you one final question.”
He paused, allowing his words to settle.
“Do you have anything you wish to say?”
Vanessa looked up slowly.
“This may not change the punishment that has already been decided,” Elder Garrick continued, “but if there are words you wish to speak… remorse you wish to express… or anything you wish this council to know…”
He folded his hands behind his back.
“…this may be the last opportunity you have to do so.”
The room remained silent. Vanessa looked around the office.
Vanessa lowered her head. When she finally spoke, her voice barely rose above a whisper.
“I…”
She swallowed.
“I just want to say… I’m sorry.”
A tear rolled slowly down her cheek.
“I’m truly… truly sorry.”
She closed her eyes.
“The choices I made… My selfishness… My foolishness… They didn’t just hurt innocent people.”
Her breathing became uneven.
“They might have caused the deaths of my parents.”
The words finally broke her.
“My father…”

A sob escaped her.
“My mother… I failed them. I failed the pack they spent their entire lives protecting. I failed everyone.”
Silence answered her confession. No one interrupted. No one comforted her. They simply listened. After several moments, Elder Garrick gave a slow nod.
“For what it is worth,” he said quietly, “believe you.”
Vanessa looked up in surprise.
“I believe that you are genuinely sorry.”
Another pause.
“I believe that if time could be reversed… you would make different choices.”
He sighed heavily.
“But unfortunately…”
His expression hardened.
“Regret does not erase consequences. Feeling remorse does not undo the suffering caused by your decisions.”
His gaze never left hers.
“You allowed yourself to be manipulated. You allowed fear to rule your judgment. You allowed your obsession with the Alpha King to blind you to reality. You allowed your mate to control your thoughts.”
Every sentence struck harder than the last.
“You admitted yourself that when you first met Rafe… you intended to reject him.”
Vanessa nodded weakly.
“I did.”
“You knew something was wrong. You sensed danger. You recognized that he was not the wolf you wanted beside you.”
Another pause.
“But instead of trusting your own instincts… you trusted the lies he whispered into your ears.”
Vanessa lowered her head again.
“You stopped believing in yourself. You stopped believing in your parents. You stopped believing in your Alpha.”
His voice became softer.
“If you had found the courage to reject him that very day… perhaps your father and mother would still be alive. If you had trusted Alpha Charles to protect both you and Stone Claw… perhaps your mother would

Vanessa couldn’t stop crying now. Every word was true. Every single one. She had known something felt wrong. Yet she had chosen fear instead of courage. Chosen fantasy instead of truth. Chosen manipulation instead of trusting the wolves who had loved her since birth.
“I’m sorry…” she whispered again.
“So… so sorry…”
Elder Garrick closed his eyes briefly before continuing.
“After careful discussion… The Alpha King… The Elder Council… have reached a unanimous decision.”
Everyone inside the office straightened. Even Damon became serious. Willow quietly reached for his hand beneath the table.
Damon immediately intertwined their fingers. Elder Garrick unrolled the official decree.
“Vanessa Stone.”
His voice echoed throughout the office.
“For gross negligence toward your duties as Alpha Heir… For allowing yourself to be manipulated by an enemy of the allied packs… For placing the entire Stone Claw Pack in danger… For surrendering the Alpha succession to an outsider without lawful authority… For failing to investigate the suspicious deaths of Alpha Charles and Luna Carla… And for actions that ultimately endangered your own pack…”
He looked directly into her eyes.
“The Alpha King and the Elder Council hereby strip you of your title as Alpha Heir.”
Vanessa stared at him. Unable to breathe. Unable to think. Then came the words she never imagined she
would hear.
“Effective immediately… your rank within Stone Claw Pack is reduced… to Omega.”
Silence. Absolute silence. Vanessa’s face drained of every drop of color. She blinked once. Twice. Surely… Surely she had misheard.
“…Omega?”
Her voice cracked.
“You…”
She shook her head.
“No… You can’t… This has to be some kind of mistake.”
She looked frantically around the room. No one corrected Elder Garrick. No one objected. No one looked surprised. They all already knew. Her punishment had already been decided.
“You can’t be serious.”

Elder Alaric leaned forward
“We are completely serious. From this day forward… You will live as every Omega in Stone Claw lives. You will sleep in the Omega quarters. You will eat after the warriors. You will perform Omega duties. You will wear the clothing assigned to Omegas. You will no longer possess any authority within this pack. You will not issue commands. You will not attend leadership meetings. You will no longer have privileges reserved for Alpha blood. Those rights…”
He looked at her sadly.
“…are no longer yours.”
Vanessa felt as though the floor had disappeared beneath her. She… An Omega? The daughter of Alpha Charles? The Alpha Heir?
Reduced… To the lowest rank in the pack? She couldn’t even comprehend it.
“But…”
A voice interrupted. Elder Mirela. Vanessa immediately looked toward her with desperate hope.
“There is one condition.”
Hope flickered inside Vanessa’s chest. Elder Mirela continued.
“This punishment… is not necessarily permanent.”
Vanessa’s eyes widened.
“The Elder Council recognizes the honor with which your parents led Stone Claw.”
She smiled sadly.
“They dedicated their entire lives to this pack. They deserve to know that their daughter was not discarded forever.”
Vanessa listened desperately.
“For that reason… You will have the opportunity to earn back your status.”
Hope grew.
“Five years from today… The new Alpha of Stone Claw will evaluate your conduct. If your actions demonstrate genuine growth… If you prove yourself trustworthy… f you dedicate yourself to serving this pack instead of yourself… You may be promoted… to Warrior.”
Vanessa listened silently.
“Five years after that… Another evaluation. If deserved… You may rise again. Five years after that…. Another evaluation.”
She finally understood. She wasn’t simply being punished. She was being forced… To earn everything she had once taken for granted.
