Chapter Thirty Two
The air inside Alpha Asher’s office was heavy-thick with tension, authority, and the unmistakable pressure of two dominant Alphas sharing the same space.
Alpha Asher stood near the long bak desk, his bands clasped behind his back in a posture meant to project control. Beside him, Luna Hazel sat upright, chin lifted, her expression carefully composed. Beta Rafe stood slightly behind them, alert, eyes moving between the Alpha King and his own leaders, reading the room with the instinct of a seasoned second-in-command.
Across from them stood Talon.
The Alpha King.
His presence alone altered the very atmosphere. Power rolled off him in quiet waves-restrained, controlled, but unmistakably lethal if unleashed. At his side stood Beta Enzo, calm and observant, his gaze sharp as he took in every flicker of expression, every subtle shift of unease.
Asher cleared his throat, breaking the silence.
“Alpha King,” he began carefully, choosing his words as though each one were a blade that could cut in the wrong direction. “We are currently investigating what happened with the rogue infiltration. How they managed to enter our territory unnoticed is… concerning. We are also interrogating the guards I personally assigned to the dungeon. Once our internal investigation is complete, we will send you a full report.”
The moment the words internal investigation left Asher’s mouth, the temperature in the room seemed to drop.
“Internal investigation?” Talon’s eyes narrowed, and his voice was calm, but it carried an edge sharp enough to draw blood. “What exactly do you mean by internal investigation?”
Asher stiffened, but before he could answer, Talon continued, his gaze unwavering. “The attack was on my mate,” he said, his voice lowering, deepening. “On my Luna Queen. This is not a matter for closed doors and whispered reports. The investigation will be done openly-and it will be led by me. As Alpha King.”
The weight of his title slammed into the room.
Hazel inhaled sharply, then stood, smoothing the front of her dress as she stepped forward.
“Alpha Talon,” she said, her tone respectful but laced with insistence, “please forgive me for interrupting. But Diana is a member of our pack. By law, any crime committed within pack territory must be investigated by that pack’s leadership.”
“Have you not heard a word I said?” Talon’s lips curved-not in amusement, but in something far colder Diana is my mate. My Luna. She is no longer just a member of your pack. She is a member of the royal family.”
“She may be your fated mate,” Hazel’s jaw tightened, her voice steady, almost earnest, “but you have not marked her. The law is clear. Wolves remain officially unmated until the mark is given.”
For a heartbeat, the room was silent.
Then Talon laughed. It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t cruel. But it was sharp, edged with unmistakable authority.

“For a regular wolf, perhaps, but let me educate you, Luna Hazel.” His eyes locked onto hers, pinning her in place. “For the royal family, especially the reigning Alpha King, the mark is a formality. Nothing more. The moment I accepted her as my Luna. The moment I mated her. Her status changed.”
His voice dropped, resonating with power. “She became the Luna Queen.”
Asher’s breath hitched.
Rafe’s eyes widened.
Hazel’s composure cracked, just for a moment.
“And the attack,” Talon continued, “happened after she became my Lurta.”
Shock rippled through the room like a physical force.
“You… you didn’t need to mark her?” Asher asked quietly, disbelief etched across his face.
“I assure you,” Enzo stepped forward then, his presence solid, his voice calm but firm. “All the Alpha King needed to do was accept her and mate her. I felt the shift in her status the night before the attack. Every member of the royal pack did. The bond was undeniable. This ensures the protection of the upcoming Luña Queen.”
His eyes flicked briefly to Hazel. “The Luna Queen’s presence was recognized.”
Silence followed.
“So I will ask again,” Talon turned his attention back to Asher, his expression hardening. “What happened to the rogues you captured? How did they end up dead in your dungeon? And what did the guards you personally chose have to say about it?”
Asher clenched his jaw. He could feel the Alpha King’s aura pressing down on him-heavy, suffocating, demanding truth.
“The guards…” he said slowly, through gritted teeth, “cannot remember what happened. They remember standing watch. And then-nothing. The next thing they knew, the rogues were dead.”
“So,” Talon’s gaze sharpened, “you have a traitor.”
The word echoed like a death sentence.
“Someone with enough authority to issue a command,” he continued, “and enough skill to compel obedience and erase memory.”
Enzo nodded. “Alpha King, we can command the guards to tell the truth. Your authority supersedes all others here.”
Talon shook his head once.
“We can,” he agreed. “But it won’t give us what we need.”
He turned slightly, pacing now, every movement controlled, predatory. “If the one who gave the order hid their face-wore a mask-the guards wouldn’t know who it was. To them, an order from a Beta carries the same command weight as one from an Alpha. They don’t feel the difference. They only feel the order.”

Hazel’s fingers curled into her palms.
In that case,” Enzo said thoughtfully, “why don’t we ask the rogues what happened?”
Talon stopped pacing A slow dangerous smile crossed his face as he looked directly at Asher, then Hazel, then Rafe.
“That,” he said, “is an excellent idea.”
Hazel’s stomach dropped.
What are they talking about? She thought wildly. The rogues are dead.
“How,” she asked sharply, unable to stop herself, “do you intend to question a dead rogue?”
Talon’s eyes gleamed. “Who said anything about questioning dead rogues?”
The silence that followed was suffocating.
“Not dead? What do you mean?” Asher said cautiously.
Clam
“My beta,” Talon replied without hesitation. “He has many talents. One of those talents is his intuition. Or foresight whichever you want to call it.”
