The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 47

Chapter Forty-Seven

That was a weird encounter. Diana thought.

Cham

‘There is something off about him, Artemis said inside their shared mind, her tone low and thoughtful. ‘But I cannot put my paw on it:

The scent of pine and earth grounded her, but her thoughts kept circling back to the stranger inside her

cabin.

‘He lied,’ Artemis continued. ‘Not completely, but enough.’

“He said he was new. Waiting for acceptance into the pack.” Diana frowned. “There are new wolves arriving, waiting for Asher’s approval. It is possible.”

‘Possible,’ Artemis agreed. ‘But his scent…

Diana’s breath caught for a fraction of a second. Yes. His scent. Strong. Commanding. Controlled. It did not smell like a lone wolf seeking shelter. It carried power. Authority. And something darker beneath it.

‘There was no scent of a pack. But there was dominance in him, Artemis murmured. The kind that does not bow easily.”

Diana shook her head, forcing herself to focus. “No time for this. Talon only gave us a couple of hours to gather what we need before we leave for Black Howler. We have to decide what to bring.”

At the mention of Talon, Artemis softened, warmth spreading through their bond.

‘Our mate,’ she said proudly. ‘The Alpha King’

Diana’s lips curved into a faint smile despite herself. Talon had made it clear. Once they left, she would be under the full protection of Black Howler Pack. No more uncertainty. No more whispers about her being wolfless. No more shadows from her past.

But that meant leaving this cabin.

Leaving the last place her parents had lived.

The small cabin was quiet, familiar. The scent of cedarwood and faint lavender lingered in the air. For a moment, she simply stood there.

“This is the last time,” she whispered softly.

Artemis pressed gently against her heart. ‘We are not losing them. We are carrying them with us.’

Diana nodded and began packing. She did not have much. She had never been one to collect unnecessary things. But every item she touched carried memory.

She opened the wooden chest near her bed first. Inside were neatly stacked letters tied with a faded blue ribbon. Her mother’s handwriting was elegant and flowing. Her father’s was larger, slightly messy but

warm.

Diana sat on the edge of the bed and untied the ribbon.

She read-only a few lines before her vision blurred.

“My brave little wolf…” her mother had written years ago.

Artemis growled softly, not in anger but in protectiveness. ‘They were proud of us.’

“They believed in me,” Diana whispered. “And they were right to.”

Carefully, she placed the letters into her bag.

Next were the photographs. Some were old and slightly worn at the edges. One of her father lifting her onto his shoulders during a summer festival. One of her mother brushing Diana’s hair while laughing at something off camera. One family portrait taken outside this very cabin.

Diana traced her parents’ faces with her thumb. “I will make you proud.”

‘You already have, Artemis said firmly.

She packed the pictures between folded clothes to keep them safe.

On the small shelf near the window were trinkets-simple things, but precious. A carved wooden wolf her father had made for her tenth birthday. A silver bracelet her mother had given her when she turned sixteen. A pressed wildflower between glass. Diana hesitated over the bracelet before slipping it onto her wrist instead of packing it.

“I will wear this when I stand beside Talon,” she said quietly.

Artemis hummed approvingly. ‘Let them see where we came from.’

She moved through the cabin methodically. Clothes went into her bag-practical ones, mostly. Training attire. A few dresses she rarely wore. Boots. A light coat.

She paused at the corner where her weapons used to rest.

They were gone.

She was no longer a warrior of this pack.

‘You are more than that now, Artemis reminded her.

“Yes,” Diana said. “But I will always be a fighter.”

Time passed quickly. When she finished, only a small stack of furniture and bare shelves remained.

It looked… empty.

Diana slung her bag over her shoulder and took one last look around. “Goodbye.”

Artemis lifted her chin internally. ‘Forward.’

Diana stepped outside, locking the door behind her. She would leave the key with one of the elders. The cabin might house another pack member someday.

As she walked back toward the pack house, her thoughts began drifting again.

The stranger’s eyes. They had been sharp. Observant. As if he had been studying her, not just looking at Ther

‘He knew, Artemis said suddenly.

“Knew what?”

‘That we are not weak.’

Diana’s jaw tightened. “Most of this pack knows that now.”

‘No, Artemis insisted. ‘He knew before that. Before we spoke much. Before we moved.’

Diana slowed slightly but then shook her head again. “Enough. We are leaving. Whatever he is hiding is not our problem.”

And truly, she did not have the mental space for it. Her entire world was shifting tonight. She was stepping into a new life. A new pack. A new title.

Mate to the Alpha King.

As she approached the pack house, she could already sense Talon’s presence inside. Strong. Steady. Like a mountain that could not be moved.

Artemis purred. ‘He is waiting.’

Diana straightened her shoulders.

Inside, pack members moved about, whispering softly. Some watched her with curiosity. Others with something like regret. She had protected this pack. Fought for it. Bled for it. And now she was leaving.

She ignored the stares and walked directly toward Talon. He stood near the large windows of the main hall, speaking quietly with Enzo.

The moment Diana stepped inside, Talon’s head lifted. His eyes found her instantly. The intensity in his gaze softened as it settled on her.

“Mate,” he said, crossing the room in long strides.

Diana felt warmth bloom in her chest. “I am ready.”

His eyes flicked to the bag over her shoulder. “You did not bring much.”

“I do not need much,” she replied. “Only what matters.”

Artemis stood tall within her. ‘We carry our past. And we walk toward our future.’
