The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 55

Chapter Fifty Five

Now, sitting beside Diana near the quiet lake, Talon rubbed a hand slowly over his jaw.

“They all had valid points,” he admitted after a long breath. “Each perspective holds weight.”

“And you?” Diana asked gently, watching him carefully. “What does your instinct say?”

He turned fully toward her. “My instinct says we strengthen our borders quietly. Increase patrol rotations without public announcements. No dramatic shifts that might alarm the pack or our allies. We offer support to Crimson Fang-but we allow them to rebuild their leadership independently. If we appear too involved, it will look like control.”

Diana nodded thoughtfully. “That makes sense.”

But her brows slowly drew together. “Do you have any updates from them? What will happen to the new incoming pack members who were waiting for the Alpha to accept them? With the leadership shaken- after the betrayal of its Beta and Luna-what happens to those wolves?”

She paused. “And has Asher found a replacement for his Beta? How can he even replace Rafe? They have been best friends since they were young.”

There was no bitterness in her voice now-only reflection.

Talon’s expression shifted. “Wait, what do you mean by new incoming members?”

Diana blinked. “The new wolves waiting to be accepted into Crimson Fang.”

“There were no incoming members accepted into Crimson Fang,” Talon’s eyes sharpened, he said carefully. “Yes, there were applicants, but when the rogue attacks began, I spoke with Asher and Enzo. We redirected all incoming wolves to our territory for screening instead. Crimson Fang went into full lockdown.”

Diana’s stomach tightened. “Well… there was someone in my cabin. When I went back to get my things. He said he was one of the new incoming pack members who hadn’t been formally accepted yet. That was why he had no scent.”

Talon stilled completely.

“He?” His voice lowered. “A male?”

“Yes.”

“Diana,” Talon said, his tone shifting from calm to controlled intensity, “no one entered Crimson Fang. The night before you were attacked in your cabin, the rogues breached the border. We locked down the territory immediately. No entries. No exits. The following day, you were attacked.”

His eyes darkened. “No new members were accepted. None.”

A cold ripple moved through Diana. She asked quietly. “Then who was the one I spoke to?”

“Tell me everything you remember,” Talon said immediately. His posture changed subtly-Alpha, strategist, protector all at once.

Diana closed her eyes briefly, searching her memory. “He had no pack scent. Not rogue. Not Crimson Fang. Nothing.”

She frowned slightly. “But Artemis said he smelled… powerful.”

Talon’s jaw tightened. “Powerful how?”

“Dominant,” Diana said softly. “Strong. Sommanding. Controlled. He did not smell like a lone wolf seeking shelter.”

She opened her eyes. “But there was no scent.”

Talon’s teeth ground faintly.

“What are you thinking?” Diana asked, noticing the tension radiating from him,

“The only wolves capable of masking their scent entirely,” Talon said slowly, “are extremely strong wolves. High-ranking Alphas. Wolves with advanced control over their aura and instincts.”

He looked out over the water briefly, thinking. “And as far as I know, none of the known powerful Alphas were present in Crimson Fang at that time.”

“Then what does that mean?” Diana’s pulse quickened. “Who is he?”

“I do not know,” Talon’s expression hardened, and he admitted. “And I do not like that you were alone with

him.”

Diana straightened slightly. “Talon, I can take care of myself. Artemis would have attacked without hesitation if she sensed true danger.”

“I know you are strong,” he said firmly. “You and Artemis are formidable.”

His gaze locked onto hers. “But you are my mate. Fenrir and me-we are bound to you. It is our duty. Our honor to protect you.”

His voice deepened. “And I was not there.”

Diana’s expression softened slightly. “He did not attack me. He spoke calmly. Almost… amused.”

That did not ease Talon’s tension.

“Did he touch you?” Talon asked.

“No.”

“Did he threaten you?”

“No.”

“Did he say anything about knowing who you are?”

She hesitated. “He watched me carefully. Like he was assessing something.”

“Diana,” Talon inhaled slowly, he said carefully, “if this male was present inside a locked-down territory during rogue unrest… and if he could conceal his scent completely…”

A dangerous possibility formed between them.

“The Rogue King,” Diana whispered.

Talon did not answer immediately, but his silence was heavy.

“If the rogue we captured mentioned a Rogue King searching for a Silver Wolf..” Diana continued slowly,” and this unknown Alpha-level wolf appeared in my cabin without scent…”

Her heart began to race. “You think he was looking for me?”

“I do not jump to conclusions,” Talon’s eyes flickered briefly with something fierce, he said carefully. “But I do not dismiss patterns either.”

Diana swallowed. “He did not know I was the Silver Wolf. If he suspected, he would not have let me leave.”

Talon’s jaw tightened. “Or he wanted to confirm.”

Silence settled between them.

The air felt heavier now.

“What does this mean?” Diana asked softly.

“It means,” Talon said, voice firm again, “that from this moment forward, you do not confront unknown wolves alone.”

She opened her mouth to argue, but he continued. “Next time, you mind-link me immediately. No hesitation.”

“Talon-”

“No,” he said gently but firmly. “I know you are capable. I know Artemis is fierce. But we nearly lost you

once.”
