Chapter Seventy Three

The pack house corridors seemed quieter than usual when Diana entered, though she knew that was likely only because her own senses were sharpened.
Everything felt… heightened.
Every step she took echoed more distinctly against the polished stone floors. Every scent-wood, leather, faint traces of food from the kitchens, the clean sharpness of recently scrubbed surfaces-seemed louder, more layered.
Every glance from passing pack members lingered just a second longer.
Not out of suspicion.
But awareness.
Respect.
Curiosity.
They could feel it too.
Something was different.
A servant bowed deeply as she passed. Two warriors immediately stepped aside, lowering their heads in acknowledgment of their Luna. Somewhere in the distance, she could hear the rhythmic clash of training- blows landing, commands shouted, bodies moving in disciplined coordination.
Life.
Continuing.
Normal.
Uninterrupted.
While something-something significant-was about to shift beneath it all.
By the time Diana reached the second floor, Talon’s presence through their bond was no longer subtle.
It pressed against her.
Steady.
Grounding.
But beneath that-
She felt something else.
Something rare.

Restraint
“Not fear.
Never fear.
Not uncertainty.
Talon did not hesitate.
But this…
This was the restraint of a predator standing at the edge of violence.
The kind that did not rush.
The kind that calculated.
Waited.
Chose the exact moment to strike.
Artemis stirred sharply within her.
Danger.
Diana turned the final corner.
And stopped.
Enzo stood outside the office door.
Beside him-
Another wolf.
Male.
Tall.
Broad.
His scent hit her immediately.
Rogue.
Not feral.
Not wild.
Controlled.
Dangerous.

Enzo straightened the moment he saw her.
“Luna.”
The other male followed suit, though his movement lacked the same instinctive respect.
Diana’s eyes flicked between them.
“What happened?” she asked quietly, her voice calm despite the tension tightening in her chest.
Enzo’s usual ease was gone.
“They arrived about twenty minutes ago,” he said. “Requested to speak with the Alpha King.”
His jaw tightened slightly.
“They refused refreshments. Refused to sit for long. He only said he would wait… for you.”
Diana felt her skin prickle.
“For me?”
“Yes.”
“Did he say why?”
Enzo shook his head.
“No.”
He stepped closer, lowering his voice.
“But he doesn’t act like any wolf I’ve met before.”
Diana’s gaze sharpened.
“He walks like he fears nothing,” Enzo continued. “And he has not once lowered his eyes to Talon.”
That told her enough.
Artemis rose fully now.
Power, her wolf murmured.
Diana’s eyes shifted briefly to the door.
“Is Talon alone with him?”
“Yes,” Enzo said. “The Alpha ordered everyone out after five minutes.”
Diana nodded slowly.
Then her gaze moved to the other wolf standing beside him.
“And him?” she asked.

Enzo’s eyes flicked toward the male.
“That is Conall,” he said. “His beta.”
Diana’s brow lifted slightly
Beta.
Clain
So this was not just a visitor.
This was a presence.
Conall stepped forward slightly, a smile forming on his lips.
“My queen,” he said smoothly, his tone respectful-but something beneath it felt… wrong. “It is a pleasure to finally meet you.”
Enzo growled low beside her.
Diana lifted her hand slightly, stopping him without looking.
Her gaze remained on Conall.
One eyebrow arched.
“You must be mistaken, Beta,” she said evenly. “I am not your queen.”
Her voice sharpened just slightly.
“I am the Luna Queen of Black Howler Pack.”
Conall’s smile didn’t falter.
“Not for long,” he said calmly.
There was something almost amused in his tone.
“Especially once you meet my king.”
His eyes glinted faintly.
“He is… a different kind of wolf.”
Diana said nothing.
“He is strong,” Conall continued. “Powerful. And he will protect you with his life.”
Enzo’s growl deepened.
But Diana stepped forward slightly.
“The same can be said for my Alpha,” she replied coolly.
Her voice carried quiet authority.
“Alpha King Talon is my mate.”

Her gaze hardened.
“And I do not seek strength or power in a mate.”
A faint, dangerous smile touched her lips.
“Though I already have both in Talon.”
She stepped closer.
“Because I am a strong and powerful wolf myself
Conall’s eyes flickered with interest.
Clam
“Do not address me as your queen again,” Diana added, her tone now edged with warning. “My patience is not unlimited.”
A beat of silence.
“And I take offense when I am addressed as something I am not.”
Conall simply smiled.
Unbothered.
Amused.
That, more than anything, made Enzo tense.
Diana took a slow breath.
Then another.
She reached for the door handle.
Before her hand could touch it-
Talon’s voice entered her mind.
“Are you ready?”
She didn’t hesitate this time.
“Yes.”
The door opened.
Diana stepped inside.
Talon stood near the far window.
Every line of his body was controlled.

Alert.
He turned the moment she entered.
For a fraction of a second
Relief softened his eyes.
Then it vanished.
Replaced by the Alpha King.
Her Alpha.
And then-
She saw him.
The male standing in the center of the room.
He was taller than most.
Broad shoulders.
Dark hair.
Simple clothing.
But nothing about him was simple.
He carried himself with quiet, undeniable dominance.
Not loud.
Not aggressive.
But absolute.
The kind of presence that did not need to prove itself.
Diana understood immediately-
This was why Talon was holding back.
This male was dangerous.
Not like rogues.
Not reckless.
Not chaotic.
This was something else.
Cray

Something that survived by thinking.
By planning.
By winning.
Clam
He turned toward her.
And smiled.
Not warm.
Not kind.
Predatory.
Like a hunter finally finding what he had been tracking.
Artemis rose within her like a blade being drawn.
The male inclined his head slightly.
“So,” he said, his voice calm-too calm. “At last.”
Diana walked forward.
Stopped beside Talon.
Every instinct in her screamed danger.
Talon’s hand brushed hers.
A silent promise.
A silent warning.
The male’s eyes never left her.
And in that moment-
She knew.
The cabin.
The scentless wolf.
The power hidden beneath control.
The one the rogues whispered about.
“You,” Diana said quietly.

Recognition.
Certainty.
The male’s smile deepened,
“Yes,” he said.
He placed a hand over his chest in mock formality.
“Me.”
A pause.
“Damon.”
The name landed like a blade.
And everything fell into place.
The Rogue King.
Here.
In Black Howler.
In Talon’s office.
“And what can I do for you, Damon?” Diana asked coolly.
Then her eyes sharpened.
“Or should I call you Rogue King?”
Damon’s gaze darkened with interest.
“You can call me anything you want…”
His voice softened.
“My queen.”
Talon growled.
Low.
Dangerous.
He took a step forward.
But Diana’s hand pressed lightly against him.

Calming.
Grounding.
Her eyes never left Damon.
“As I told your beta outside,” she said, her voice now edged with steel, “I am not his queen.”
A beat.
“And I am certainly not yours.”
Her chin lifted slightly.
“I am the Luna Queen of Black Howler.”
Her voice dropped.
“Mate to Alpha King Talon.”
Her gaze hardened.
