Chapter Ninety One
“He took her.”
Talon’s voice was low.
Too controlled.
Too quiet.
The kind of quiet that came right before something broke.
Across from him, Diana didn’t move immediately.
She watched him.
Studied him.
“Talon-”
“No.”
He cut her off sharply.
His eyes flashed.
Gold bleeding into them.
Fenrir stirring beneath the surface.
“No, my mate.”
“He took her.”
Each word landed harder than the last.
“Damon took her against her will.”
The name tasted like poison.
“That mind link-”
He let out a harsh breath.
“That was him.”
Talon began pacing now, restless energy rolling off him in waves.
The air itself felt heavier.
“I have to go after them.”
His voice dropped.
“I have to bring her back.”

Talon”
This time Diana didn’t raise her voice.
But something in it
Made him pause.
Not stop.
But pause.
She stepped closer.
Slow.
Deliberate.
“Do you really believe that?”
Talon’s head snapped toward her.
“What?”
“That your sister,” Diana said calmly, “is weak enough to be taken.”
Silence.
Dangerous silence.
“She was injured.”
Talon’s voice came out sharp.
“She just woke up.”
“She was vulnerable.”
“And Damon-”
His fists clenched.
“He took advantage of that.”
Diana tilted her head slightly.
“Or…”
Her eyes met his fully now.
Steady.
Unyielding.
“Maybe you’re underestimating her.”

Talon stiled.
“She’s your sister,” Diana continued.
“The same female who would rather suffer in silence than let anyone see her break.”
“The same wolf who stayed quiet about her own pain-”
Her gaze flickered briefly.
“-so your alliance wouldn’t fall apart.”
That hit.
Talon’s expression shifted-
Just slightly.
“She endured days,” Diana said, softer now, “watching her mate choose another woman.”
“And she didn’t say a word.”
“She didn’t run.”
“She didn’t cause conflict.”
“She stayed.”
Her voice dropped.
“For you.”
Talon’s chest tightened.
“And now,” Diana continued, “you think she would just let someone drag her away?”
A long silence stretched between them.
“I would love,” Diana added, a small, dangerous smile forming on her lips, “to see how Willow handles Damon.”
Talon frowned slightly.
“What do you mean?”
Her smile sharpened.
“I mean…”
She crossed her arms.
“I cannot wait to see the moment your sister brings the mighty Rogue King to his knees.”
Talon blinked.
“…what?”

“Oh, come un.” Diana said lightly.”
“You’ve seen how Damon acts.”
“So confident.”
“So sure he can get whatever he wants.”
Her eyes gleamed.
“Let’s see how long that lasts.”
Talon exhaled sharply.
“That’s not funny.”
“I didn’t say it was funny,” Diana replied calmly.
“I said I’m interested.”
A pause.
“Because your sister?”
“She’s not the one in danger here.”
That made him stop pacing completely.
“…you really believe that.”
“I know that.”
Talon stared at her.
For a moment-
He saw it.
The same certainty she had in battle.
The same calm she carried when facing enemies.
She wasn’t guessing.
She was sure.
Still-
“You knew.”
His voice dropped again.
Accusing now.
“You knew he would take her.”

“And you didn’t push.”
Her voice wasn’t accusing.
But it wasn’t gentle-either.”
“You assumed he would.”
Another pause.
“But he never said yes.”
Talon’s chest tightened.
“And then,” Diana continued, quieter now, “you told him something else.”
Talon didn’t speak.
But he already knew.
“You told him,” she said, “that Willow cannot reject him.”
The words settled heavily between them.
“Because of your royal vow.”
Silence.
Thick.
Unavoidable.
“In that moment,” Diana said softly, “you removed her choice.”
Talon flinched.
“And gave him power.”
His fists clenched again-
But this time-
Not in anger at Damon.
At himself.
“In a way…”
Diana’s voice softened slightly.
“You gave him the push he needed.”
Talon dragged a hand through his hair.
“…I was trying to protect her.”

“And you still are.”
She stepped closer, placing a hand against his chest.
“But protection doesn’t always mean control.”
His breathing slowed.
“And right now,” Diana said, “if you go after them like this-”
Her gaze sharpened.
“You’re not protecting Willow,”
“You’re taking her choice away again.”
That hit harder than anything else.
Talon closed his eyes briefly.
Fenrir growled low inside him-
Conflicted.
“She’s my sister.”
“I know.”
“I’m her Alpha.”
“And she’s not your subordinate right now,” Diana said gently.
“She’s a mated wolf.”
A pause.
“And this…”
Her voice lowered.
“…this is between her and her mate.”
Talon opened his eyes.
Still conflicted.
Still burning.
“But if he hurts her again-”
“He won’t.”
Talon scoffed.

You trust him now?”
Diana shook her head.
“No.”
A beat.
“I trust her.”
That stopped him.
“She survived worse than Damon.”
“She endured pain he doesn’t even understand.”
“And if he crosses a line-”
Diana’s eyes flashed.
“She won’t need you to destroy him.”
A small smile formed.
“She’ll do it herself.”
Talon stared at her.
And slowly-
Very slowly-
The tension in his shoulders eased.
Not gone.
But shifting.
“She better not forgive him too easily.”
Diana smirked.
“Oh, she won’t.”
A pause.
“If anything…”
Her smile turned wicked.
“He’s the one who should be afraid.”
Talon let out a quiet breath.
“…goddess help him.”

It had been hours since they left Black Howler Pack.
Hours of silence.
Hours of distance growing with every mile behind them.
Conall had not stopped driving once.
Not even to rest.
Not even to slow down.
The car moved relentlessly through winding forest roads, the engine humming steadily beneath them. It felt less like travel-and more like escape.
As if they were being chased.
As if at any moment, Talon would appear behind them.
Willow sat in the back seat alone.
Damon in the passenger seat.
Conall driving.
No one spoke.
Her body still ached.
Not the sharp, searing pain from before-but a dull, lingering ache that refused to fade.
The wolfsbane was gone.
Diana’s blood had taken care of that.
But healing-
Even with Winter working tirelessly-
Did not erase everything.
Some pain stayed.

And some pain had nothing to do with wounds.
Winter, however-
Was in bliss.
“Mate is with us,” her wolf murmured happily inside their shared mind.
Willow closed her eyes briefly.
Winter had forgiven him.
Already.
Completely.
Cerberus too.
As if none of it had happened.
As if the days of watching him-
Wanting someone else-
Had never existed.
Willow swallowed.
That’s what mating does to wolves…
It binds.
It softens.
It erases.
Even pain.
Even betrayal.
Even the quiet, repeated breaking of a heart-
Every time he called another female his mate.
Every time he tried to separate Talon and Diana-
So he could have her instead.
Winter didn’t remember the pain the same way.
Or maybe she did-
And simply chose to let it go.
Because to a wolf-

Haying their mate-

And if forgiveness was the price-
They would pay it.
Willow exhaled slowly.
“I don’t blame you,” she whispered inwardly.
Winter had been lonely.
They both had.
Years of waiting.
Years of hoping.
Years of wondering-
When will it be my turn?
She had watched Talon and Diana.
Watched Enzo and Leah.
Watched what it looked like-
To be chosen.
To be loved.
To belong.
And she had wanted that.
So badly.
She had even been willing to settle.
To choose someone-
If fate never came.
But even that-
Had been taken from her.
And now?
Now fate had come.
