The Silver Wolf (Diana and Talon) novel Chapter 99

Chapter Ninety Nine

Clau

Diana stood very still as Willow finished explaining Kira’s story, her grip on the edge of the table tightening ever so slightly.

Inside her-

Artemis was already pacing.

Restless.

Furious.

“I knew it,” Artemis growled inside their shared mind.

“I knew I should have done something to that bitch when I had the chance.”

Her voice was sharp-cutting.

“She didn’t just try to take our mate from us…”

A snarl echoed through Diana’s thoughts.

“Now she’s helping her mate bully her own pack members?”

Diana inhaled slowly, grounding herself.

But Artemis wasn’t done.

“How does a so-called Alpha raise a daughter like that?” Artemis continued, her anger simmering into something darker.

“The next time we see her-”

A pause.

Dangerous.

“Do not stop me from teaching her a lesson. Her parent obviously cannot do it themselves”

Diana pressed her lips together.

Then, with effort, pushed Artemis back.

Not silencing her-

Just… containing her.

On the other end of the call, her voice remained calm.

Controlled.

“Talon… we need to do something about this.”

Talon turned toward her, his own anger now sharpening into focus.

“How can an Alpha’s daughter drive a pack member to reject their own pack?” Diana continued.

“That is not just abuse of power… that is a failure of leadership.”

Talon exhaled harshly

“If we had known this sooner…”

His jaw tightened.

“We wouldn’t have let them leave Black Howler.”

On the other end, Willow stilled slightly.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“Who left the pack?”

Talon’s voice steadied, though the frustration was still there.

“All allied packs have already left.”

A pause.

“When we found no evidence linking any of them to your attack…”

His tone hardened.

“We had no grounds to detain them.”

Silence followed that.

Heavy.

“So Diana can’t check if one of Stone Claw’s warriors… was Rafe?” Willow asked.

“No,” Talon answered bluntly.

“We can’t.”

Another pause.

“Not anymore.”

Diana stepped in again, her voice thoughtful now.

“The only way we can pursue this properly…”

She glanced at Talon briefly.

“…is if Kira and her family file a formal complaint.”

A pause.

“They would need to be under our protection in Black Howler.”

“And then we would summon Stone Claw to answer for it.”

Silence stretched again-

Before Willow spoke.

“I don’t think they’ll agree to that.”

Her tone was firm.

Certain.

“They did everything they could just to escape.”

A breath.

“They won’t willingly go back.”

A pause.

“And I don’t think Beta Conall will agree to it either.”

That caught both Talon and Diana’s attention.

“What do you mean?” Diana asked, though her voice carried a hint of suspicion already forming.

Willow didn’t hesitate.

“Kira… is Conall’s mate.”

Silence.

Complete.

Even Damon went still beside her.

Although Willow quickly added-

“She’s not ready to accept it.”

“She’s focused on her son… and her family.”

On the other end, Diana’s lips curved slightly.

“Well…”

A faint edge entered her tone.

“Now you know what it feels like, Beta Conall.”

Her voice sharpened just enough.

“I hope you handle it better than you advised your king to handle Willow.”

Conall said nothing.

Not a single word.

Willow frowned slightly.

“What do you mean by that, Diana?”

There was a brief pause-

Then Diana answered, lighter this time-but not without meaning.

“Nothing.”

A small exhale.

“I simply reminded Conall that a Beta should know how to guide his Alpha.”

Her tone shifted-

Sharper again.

“And when he chose to stay silent while Damon mistreated you…”

A beat.

“Well.”

“Now his mate is someone who doesn’t accept him.”

“The tables have turned.”

For a brief moment-

Silence.

Then-

Diana’s expression shifted.

Subtly.

And when she spoke again-

It wasn’t entirely her.

“Karma is a bitch, Beta.”

Artemis’s presence bled into her tone-sharp, unapologetic.

“I hope you learn your lesson.”

A pause.

“Ask your king for advice.”

“Seems like he has experience in being rejected.”

That one-landed.

Hard.

Even Talon let out a quiet, amused breath despite the tension.

Damon and Conall remained silent.

Completely.

Diana sighed softly.

“I’m sorry about that,” she said.

“Artemis is… protective of Willow.”

A faint pause.

“And both of you are still very much on her list.”

A small, dry edge entered her voice.

“I’m still trying to convince her not to march into the Rogue Kingdom and deal with both of you herself.”

Another pause.

“And she knows Fenrir would happily support her.”

That earned the faintest reaction from Talon-

A flicker of agreement.

“Artemis…”

Willow’s voice softened now.

“I’m okay.”

A pause.

“This is my choice.”

“I chose to stay here.”

Another breath.

“You don’t need to rescue me.”

There was a brief silence-

Before Artemis responded again, her tone still edged but quieter.

“I don’t like them.”

A pause.

“He deceived us in Crimson Fang.”

“Her voice dropped, dangerous.

“Entered our cabin without permission.”

“Lied about who he was.”

“And then came to our new pack-uninvited,”

A low growl.

“He should be thankful my human thinks before she acts.”

A sharp breath.

“Because if it were up to me…”

“They would have been thrown out the moment they stepped inside.”

Diana closed her eyes briefly, steadying herself again.

Willow exhaled softly.

“No need to hold onto that anger, Artemis.”

Her voice was calm-but firm.

“I’ll handle him.”

A pause.

“Just don’t take over Diana…”

“And don’t ask Fenrir to do the same with Talon.”

A faint, almost teasing edge entered her tone.

“Stay there.”

“The pack needs you.”

Then softer-
