With both Walt and Yvette in trouble, the hospital was left without a leader. The state health department didn’t rush to appoint a new director from outside. Instead, they tried promoting one of the deputy directors from within the hospital.

The first candidate they approached turned the offer down immediately. After all, two consecutive directors had gotten themselves into trouble. Anyone could see that the position was dangerous. He knew better than to volunteer as the next target.

Several others declined as well. In the end, the State Health Department appointed Mason Brooks/who was only months away from retirement, to serve as acting director.

Mason was from the hospital. Rather than concentrating power in his own hands, he quickly formed a task force He took the title of team leader in name only. Meanwhile, the deputy leader was Joseph. Joseph held all the authority and was in charge of the hospital’s medical operations.

The first thing Joseph did was undo many of Yvette’s reforms. For example, she had replaced the hospital’s original pharmaceutical suppliers, raised retail drug prices, and removed several cost-effective medications from circulation.

In their place, she had introduced expensive drugs supplied by her preferred supplier, which happened to be under New World Group. Before long, representatives from both New World Group and the supplier arrived at the hospital. Mason immediately passed the problem to Joseph.

“Joseph, you’re a part of the Lowell family. We have extensive partnerships with them. You shouldn’t ruin our business relationship. You have to restore our supply contracts immediately,” said one of the representatives.

Instead of arguing, Joseph called security to escort them out. Later, Mason began receiving a flood of complaint calls targeting Joseph. He just played dumb and dodged responsibility whenever possible. When he couldn’t dodge it, he would say that hospital affairs should be handled by the hospital.

Joseph spotted Grace standing by the road outside his neighborhood. He pulled over and told her to get in.

“If you’re here to talk about the pharmaceutical contracts, don’t bother,” said Joseph.

“What should we talk about then?” Grace asked.

She quickly forced them apart. She ordered, “Joe, what did you do to upset Dad? Apologize to him.”

“Cora, we should get a divorce,” stated Joseph. No matter when or where a conflict occurred, Cora would always prioritize her parents, her family, and herself. It was only after everyone else would there be room for him. Maybe there never had been room for him in the first place.

Such a woman wasn’t worthy of being his wife. Besides, she had been cheating on him for years. There was no way she could still be his wife.

Cora was irritated. “Joseph, can you stop throwing divorce around every time we argue? What have I ever done to wrong you?”

“You’ve done nothing wrong? Tell me then. Which man did you have Natalie with?” Joseph questioned.

Cora snapped, “Can you stop bringing up something that doesn’t even exist? You may not be sick of it, but I am!”
