Chapter 600

Joseph wasn’t afraid of Yara, nor did he feel sorry for Mona. As far as he was concerned, it was just two dogs fighting over a bone. Still, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he knew Mona from somewhere, and he was curious about her real identity.
He sent a coded message to Yelena, telling her to dig into Mona’s background.
A waft of expensive perfume hit him before a drop-dead gorgeous woman appeared in front of Joseph. It was Madeline.
“I know who you’re here to see. Follow me.”
Without letting her waste time on pleasantries, Joseph led her straight to Skylar’s room. He did a quick check on Skylar, saw that he was awake, and waved Madeline over.
“Skylar, how did you end up like this again? I’ve been so worried about you!”
Madeline’s eyes welled up with tears. She choked back silent sobs, and the heartbreak actually looked genuine.
Joseph cut in, “Quit crying. Say what you need to say to Mr. Zahn, and make it quick. He can’t talk, but he can hear you just fine.”
He stepped back to the side but made no move to leave.
“Can you step out? I want to talk to Skylar privately.”
Madeline wanted to say sweet nothings without anyone else around, especially not an ugly man like Henry.
Joseph said, “This isn’t a cafe where you two can get a private booth for a secret rendezvous. Just spit it out. You’re covered in outside germs. You’re a walking infection risk to Mr. Zahn.”
He checked his watch before giving her a strict three-minute limit.
He caught Skylar glaring at him, clearly pissed off at how he was treating Madeline.
“Oh, so you’re mad that I’m treating your woman like this? What if I actually hooked up with her? Would that piss you off to death? Don’t worry. That day will come,” Joseph mused as he took a step back, pretending to check the monitors.
Madeline first told Skylar how much she missed him and prayed that he would recover and leave the hospital
soon.
Then she told him about the trouble she was facing. The Banks family patriarch had been hospitalized, and his condition was still unclear.
The whole Banks family was becoming restless, and as one of the younger members, she was constantly being sidelined. She told him she was at her breaking point.
Joseph couldn’t help but think, “This wench isn’t just giving herself to Skylar. She’s actively trying to funnel the Banks family’s wealth over to the Zahns. Unbelievable.”
As he listened, Joseph felt nothing but contempt, while his hatred for Skylar only grew stronger.

Still, he had a strong feeling that with Madeline being such a hopelessly lovestruck idiot, there was no way she could actually snatch wealth that didn’t belong to her out from under Cora’s nose.
Besides, Skylar could barely keep himself alive right now. Telling him all this wouldn’t help his recovery in the slightest. It might even make him anxious and hurt his chances of recovering.
And Joseph was more than happy to watch it happen. He didn’t give Madeline a second more, forcing her to cut her visit short.
Madeline was reluctant to leave, but since Joseph wasn’t giving her a choice, she had to ask for his contact info so she could coordinate for next time.
