Realizing there was still hope for Mona, Gemma and the others did everything they could to save her. Against all odds, their efforts paid off. Half an hour later, Mona had managed to pull through.

Reuben’s student was especially delighted. He exclaimed that he could write a reflection on his takeaways, which could lead to a breakthrough in treating critically injured patients.

Joseph only smiled and remained silent.

In the meantime, Yelena’s investigation had produced preliminary results. Mona had met up privately with Cora before the car accident, but Yelena couldn’t find out what they discussed.

She told Joseph that she had a feeling Mona’s accident was an attempted murder, triggered by the meeting with Cora. For now, though, it remained nothing more than speculation. She had no direct evidence to back it up.

Joseph was very concerned about this as it involved Cora. He told Yelena to focus on investigating Mona’s background, especially her connections to him.

After some thought, he decided to contact Cora directly to inform her about Mona’s accident.

Cora was quite shocked. She confirmed with Joseph again before telling him she understood. After the call, she sent him 50,000 dollars as a consultation fee.

“I get 50,000 dollars just for telling her that? How generous of her,” Joseph thought.

Joseph suspected Cora was trying to buy his silence, so that he wouldn’t spread any rumors. That only made him even more curious about what the two of them had discussed. What could Mona possibly have gotten herself into that had nearly cost her life?

His thoughts drifted to Evercrest Industrial. It was a Zahn family business that had suffered heavy losses after its laboratory and warehouse were burned down. However, it managed to survive because of the truce between the outsiders and Owen Zahn.

Joseph wondered whether Mona had given Cora key information about Evercrest Industrial in exchange for her investment. Naturally, this would’ve gone against the Zahn family’s interest. They couldn’t take it out on Cora directly, but dealing with Mona would be a piece of cake.

He felt this was likely the case, but he had no evidence to prove it.

After pondering for a while, he went to Yara’s ward. He dismissed the caregiver and gave Yara a massage, letting her enjoy one of the few comforts she had left before her death.

The more she savored these small comforts, the less she wanted to die. Unfortunately, that was beyond her control.

Seeing how pleased she was, Joseph asked, “I saw Mona Scott in the ICU just now. She’s severely injured. Won’t they suspect you?”

“Is she awake?” Yara asked casually.

“With such severe injuries, it’s a miracle she’s even alive. She’s under intubation and can’t speak,” Joseph

replied.

“Henry, do me a favor. Don’t let her live,” Yara said.

“Were you really the one behind this? If you are involved, I’ll definitely help you. If not, I won’t do it,” Joseph said. He neither refused nor denied Yara’s request.

“I didn’t do this, so it won’t be traced back to me. But if Mona thinks I did it, she’ll expose everything else I’ve done. And there’s a good chance she will. To be safe, it’s best if she doesn’t wake up,” Yara said.
