Ivy jumped in terror. She held her breath, her face burning furiously as she stammered out an excuse.
"I—I was just helping you! I wasn't trying to take advantage of you, I swear."
Alaric was truly wasted.
His mind was a total blank, devoid of any rational thought.
But his body felt like it was on fire.
Staring down at the breathtaking girl beneath him, he felt like a man wandering the desert who had just stumbled upon a fresh spring, dying of thirst.
His Adam's apple bobbed heavily, his breathing turning ragged.
Losing whatever control he had left, he crashed his lips down onto hers.
Ivy's eyes widened in sheer shock as his handsome face suddenly filled her vision.
Her heart hammered violently against her ribs, completely stealing her breath.
Before she could even process what was happening, Alaric shifted his angle and kissed her again, this time with desperate intensity.
It was his first time ever kissing a woman, so there was no technique or rhythm to it.
He just acted purely on instinct.
Ivy was completely paralyzed.
It wasn't until she felt entirely starved of oxygen that she finally managed to wrench her face away from his lips.
But a second later, he was aggressively trailing open-mouthed kisses down her cheek and neck, his hands clumsily yanking at her clothes.
Ivy knew full well they were legally married, so sleeping together wouldn't technically be wrong.
But he was blackout drunk, and she couldn't just let him cross this line.
If she did, he'd definitely wake up tomorrow and accuse her of trying to seduce him again.
Seeing him about to rip her shirt open, Ivy shoved him back with all her might and scrambled to sit up, desperate to escape.
Pushed away, Alaric didn't fight back. He slumped backward against the mattress, tearing miserably at his own collar.
Realizing something was seriously wrong with him, Ivy scrambled back to inspect him.
If he was just drunk, he wouldn't be losing control like this.
Had someone slipped something in his drink?
The realization sent a shockwave of panic through her.
Who would have the guts to drug a billionaire like Alaric Foster?
"I'll take responsibility for you."
With those words, he leaned down and captured her lips once more.
In that moment, Ivy completely froze.
She knew exactly what kind of 'help' he needed.
And this time, he hadn't insulted her by mentioning money.
So she would help him, just this once.
After all, he had stepped in to help her when she needed it most.
Reminding herself that she was technically his wife,
the fact that he hadn't laid a finger on her all this time proved he was a decent man.
Now that he desperately needed her, Ivy couldn't find a single excuse to push him away.
She would treat this as payment for him letting her stay and giving her such a comfortable life.
Ivy stopped fighting him, her hands moving up to help him undo the buttons of his shirt.
