Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 24

Even if he had paid her a bit too much.

Hearing it was only a thousand dollars, Alaric instantly felt like this was a complete waste of his time.

But since he had already brought it up, he figured he might as well get to the bottom of it.

"Why did he transfer money to you, and why did you accept it? If you have your sights set on him, you could have just gotten together with him. Why force me to marry you?"

Ivy realized the severity of the situation, her heart jumping into her throat.

Not daring to hide anything, she honestly explained.

"He has a leg injury and asked me to bring him meals, which is why he paid me."

"I know I shouldn't have taken that much money from him, but as soon as I found out he was your nephew, I stopped accepting his transfers."

Remembering she still had a little money left on her phone, Ivy hastily pulled it out and offered it to Alaric, her voice trembling.

"I can give the money back to you, Mr. Foster. I just wanted to earn a little extra cash through my own hard work. I never intended to scam your nephew."

Alaric sat perfectly straight.

He looked at the girl holding her phone out in mid-air, looking so terrified she was about to cry.

Though he was completely unmoved, he didn't think this was a massive issue worth harping on.

In fact, it would be better if she really was hooking up with Ethan—then he would have the perfect excuse to dissolve this unwanted marriage.

"Mr. Foster, please open your payment code so I can return the money. I promise I will never try to make extra cash off your nephew again."

Terrified that Mr. Foster might kick her out over this.

Ivy looked up with glossy eyes, her hands shaking as she offered him the phone.

Alaric ignored her gesture and asked another question.

"Are you that desperate for money? If you're so short on cash, why did you refuse to take care of Stella full-time?"

Besides, he had clearly stated it before.

As long as she willingly climbed into his bed and fulfilled her duties as a wife, he was more than willing to pay her.

If she needed money so badly, why hadn't she slept with him?

But she truly didn't have any ulterior motives.

She just wanted to lay low here, hiding from her parents while building a nest egg.

Did Mr. Foster mean that since she was married to him, she shouldn't be entangled with Ethan?

She didn't have those kinds of feelings for Ethan at all.

Ivy also knew very well that a married woman like her should keep her distance from all men.

So she resolved not to have any more contact with Ethan moving forward.

Early the next morning.

Ivy arrived at the hospital, her heart still heavy with anxiety.

Because Summer had confidently sworn yesterday that she would be fired today.

And Mr. Foster had lost his temper with her last night; he might actually have ordered her termination.

Ivy walked up to the nurse's station, bracing herself for the head nurse to tell her to pack her things and leave.
