Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 25

Ivy waited and waited, but instead of the head nurse telling her she was fired, she received a rushed scolding.

"Ivy, what are you standing around for? Go change into your scrubs and start your shift!"

Ivy snapped out of her daze, realizing she probably hadn't been fired after all, and hurried off to change.

Afterward, she prepped the medications and went around changing dressings and setting up IV drips for the patients.

She was busy for quite a while, and it wasn't until she returned to the nurse's station that she bumped into Summer.

When Summer saw her, her previous arrogance was completely gone. She looked utterly deflated and didn't dare provoke Ivy.

Ivy had no interest in engaging with her either and went back to work.

At noon, in the hospital cafeteria.

Ivy sat alone in a corner eating her lunch.

She was just worrying about whether her parents would go looking for Hazel and drag her back home to force her into a marriage.

Suddenly, Summer marched right up to her, dragging Patrick Sterling by the arm.

Ivy didn't want to deal with them, so she grabbed her tray and prepared to leave.

Summer raised a hand to block her path.

"Don't celebrate too early. Do you really think no one knows which doctor you're hooking up with to get such special treatment?"

Ivy stopped and completely ignored Patrick standing beside her, asking coldly:

"What special treatment?"

Summer confronted her, not caring in the slightest what Patrick thought of her, and sneered aggressively.

"Your shifts! Starting at nine in the morning and leaving at four in the afternoon! Your family is broke, and you have zero connections. If you hadn't latched onto someone with authority, who would give you such perfect hours?"

Ivy finally understood. She nodded and admitted it openly.

"That's right, I do know someone very powerful higher up. Didn't you say I'd be fired today? So why am I still standing here working at the hospital?"

She believed that a capable man like Mr. Foster knew right from wrong.

If Mr. Foster fired her without even investigating, then she simply wouldn't divorce him and would use her status as Mrs. Foster to make him miserable forever.

She had nothing left to lose anyway. She could afford to act reckless.

A man of Mr. Foster's status, however, couldn't say the same.

But Ivy just smiled brightly, looking completely unbothered, and casually walked right past them.

Not getting the reaction of devastation and heartbreak she wanted, Summer angrily shouted at her retreating back:

"Just you wait, Ivy! I'll force you out of this hospital sooner or later!"

Ivy maintained her dignity, still entirely unfazed.

This wasn't the only hospital in the world.

If that day really came, she would simply find a job at another hospital.

Ivy pushed the thought away. Just as she stepped out of the cafeteria, she received a text from Ethan.

He was asking her to bring him lunch again.

The money had already been transferred.

Ivy reminded herself that Ethan was still a patient under her care.

She couldn't just abandon him right now.

She decided to use the leftover money from before to buy him food, refusing to accept any new transfers from him.
