Ottilie offered a polite nod to Marcella.
She replied with flawless composure, "Not at all. The whole world knows that Ms. Tarrant is deeply in love with Mr. Fordham and has sacrificed everything for him. I have absolutely no relationship with him. Ms. Tarrant's love is just so overwhelming that she insists on treating me as a rival. It's truly an unfair accusation on my end."
Marcella nodded gracefully. "It's my birthday today. If you have some free time, Ms. Sewell, you should come join us."
"I appreciate the kind invitation, Mrs. Fordham," Ottilie replied. "But I have a prior engagement today and simply can't slip away."
Just as she finished speaking, someone in the hallway announced, "Mr. Fordham has arrived."
The corners of Nyssa's lips curled up. "Mrs. Fordham, Yorath is here. Let's go see him."
Marcella offered a final, polite smile to Lachlan before turning and walking out.
Standing in the hallway, Nyssa leaned over the railing and called down, "Yorath, you made it. I ran into Mrs. Fordham here today, and she graciously invited me to her birthday dinner. I never expected to run into Ms. Sewell here too."
Ottilie had absolutely zero desire to run into Yorath.
But having been explicitly called out, she had no choice but to brace herself and step into the hallway.
Looking down from the corridor, she saw him ascending the grand staircase, flanked by a group of wealthy heirs.
All the hotel staff paused what they were doing, bowing respectfully as the group passed.
He wore gold-rimmed glasses, looking bespectacled and exuding a ruthless aristocratic aura.
He moved with unhurried ease, completely in control.
Every subtle gesture broadcasted the effortless superiority of a man at the absolute top of the food chain.
Power naturally brought the world to its knees.
Nyssa hurried to the top of the stairs to greet him. "Yorath, you're here."
He gave a curt nod. His level gaze swept past Ottilie without stopping, landing directly on his mother.
"Mom." He walked up to her. "Why are you here so early? Where's Dad?"
"He got a call right as we were leaving and said he'd be a little late. I was worried you all might arrive early and feel neglected, so I came ahead of time."
Yorath's inner circle immediately bowed their heads in greeting. "We're practically family, Mrs. Fordham. There's no need to fuss over us."
"Don't just stand out here, let's go inside and chat. I made some pastries myself. You all should try them."
