At the Meridian Villa.
Ottilie took a slow sip of her black tea, completely unfazed.
She calmly watched the internal warfare of the wealthy family play out.
Despite being trapped in the middle of it, she felt entirely detached, as if watching a fire burn from across the river.
Yvonne had immediately summoned the villa's security team, completely blocking Tobin and his men from advancing.
"Tobin, even if God himself came down today, you still wouldn't be taking Ms. Sewell."
Tobin had served the late Mr. Fordham his entire life; even the young masters of the household treated him with the utmost respect.
He had never been publicly humiliated like this. His face turned ashen as he stood his ground. "Yvonne, you are openly defying the Madam's orders."
"I don't make a habit of fighting the elderly," Yvonne replied flatly. "Don't force my hand."
Tobin's lips twitched in anger. "Fine, I can't move you. Let's see you tell that to the Madam yourself!"
Ottilie finally spoke up. "Make the call. I happen to have a few words for Mrs. Fordham myself. If she still insists on taking me after I'm done speaking, I'll go willingly. You won't have to make things difficult for anyone else."
Tobin dialed Marcella's number. "Madam, Ms. Sewell wishes to speak with you."
A response murmured from the other end.
The butler walked over and held the phone out to Ottilie. Fearing she might try something underhanded, he made sure to put it on speakerphone.
"You may speak, Ms. Sewell," Tobin said stiffly.
Ottilie didn't waste time. "Mrs. Fordham, I understand that as a mother, you feel the need to clear any stumbling blocks from your child's path to success. You wealthy families have your own set of rules, and I get that. However, us ordinary people have our own rules, too, as well as our own standards for a partner. The man I love must be capable of keeping me safe. Right now, your son is merely lying in a hospital bed, and your people are already breaking into my home. Clearly, he does not meet my standards."
The words drew the gaze of every single person in the room directly onto Ottilie.
