Chapter 328 Guard This Land Beside You

The previously lifeless group chat burst into activity instantly. If Gillian gave an order, everyone carried it out perfectly.

They typed, “Yes, Mrs. Cole.”

Ordinary yet deeply haunting photos rolled out in front of six billion beastmen viewers.

The first picture showed a soldier’s shoulder weighed down by parasitic scales that totaled more than ten pounds. The man still stood rigidly on sentry duty.

[I just pulled this screenshot from security footage to keep as a memento. I thought my whole body would turn scaly soon, and I would never make it home. But Ms. Sterling cured me. Thank you, Ms. Sterling.]

The second photo captured legs covered in hard scales, as if trapped inside iron buckets. The soldier stared blankly at the sunset on the horizon.

[Tough guys don’t complain about pain. It doesn’t hurt that badly. If I hold this taint source, my kid will get to see tomorrow’s sunrise.]

The third shot showed a chest fully covered in scales. The soldier still grinned and held up a victory sign.

[Honey, this scale looks just like heavy armor. The bio-armor got torn up fighting tainted beasts today, and I didn’t get a single wound on my chest.]

New photos kept pouring in faster and faster.

They drifted across the screen like snowflakes-once overlooked, now heavy enough to weigh on every viewer’s heart.

No one had realized just how brutal life was at the taint source.

The screen filled completely with these images, forming one enormous electronic wall of photos.

A short clip popped up at the bottom, dated six years earlier.

A beastman soldier covered head to toe in scales saluted the barren wasteland.

A faint smile touched his lips. “Mom, Dad, forgive your unfilial son. Let me do a little more for this land.”

He charged straight into an S-class heavily contaminated cave. The entrance exploded moments later, sending waves of raw taint billowing outward.

All that sacrifice only reduced the toxin concentration by a few percentage points.

He was not alone. Thousands upon thousands of soldiers had done the exact same thing.

They were sons of this land, born here and ready to give their lives back to it.

Merrick shouted sharply, “All troops, salute.”

He held a strict legion salute toward the photo wall, grief heavy in his eyes.

Tears welled up in Gillian’s eyes all over again.

In her past life, there had never been a cure for the scaly sickness. In this lifetime, no one in Wasteland City would die from this parasite ever again.

Lily hugged Gillian’s legs tightly. “Mom, I will protect you. With me here, you and Dad Merrick will never end up like them. None of us will.”

Gillian said gently, “It won’t happen again, Lily. We have taken control of the Central World Marker. We will make sure no more flower beasts or taint get teleported through.”

Lily tilted her head. “Can we still go to the Central World?”

Gillian pulled Lily into her arms. “We will. You will get to go home.”

Lily snuggled close, breathing in Gillian’s familiar scent-the same warmth her mother had.

She had once considered staying beside Gillian forever, but she changed her mind completely after watching the broadcast.

Human greed was truly terrifying, and one should never wager the most precious things one possessed on the kindness of others.

They attracted far more attention than these parasites. Greed could twist even a good person into something ugly.

The taint would never destroy Wasteland City, but a thousand flower beasts capable of upgrading bloodlines would drive six billion beastmen into madness.

Exposing their existence would be a real disaster.

Both the crimson hides and the 9th Legion kept the flower beasts’ existence a secret by mutual
