Only a small number of beastmen remained stationed inside Wasteland City.

Ralph kicked the main gate of the 9th Legion compound wide open. He freed the frozen Department of Justice officers and tossed their stiff bodies down right in front of Gillian.

He shouted, “Are you the female who killed Omar? How dare you? Do you have any idea what punishment awaits you?”

Gillian recognized him at once. “Are you Mr. Ralph Cole?”

The towering beastman exuded overwhelming power, and his facial features bore a striking seventy-percent resemblance to Merrick.

Legion soldiers who had rushed over to block the exit surrounded the whole meeting hall.

One soldier shouted, “Surrender right now, or we will use force.”

Ralph sneered, “Force? If your threats worked, I would not be standing here. Is this how Merrick trains his men? You are all useless.”

The soldier stiffened in shock. “Who exactly are you?”

Ralph’s face turned icy cold. “I am your commander’s father. Even my son speaks carefully in my presence. All of you, get out of my way.”

The surrounding soldiers flinched from his sharp rebuke.

The overhead lights in the metal room lit up his features clearly, and everyone saw just how closely he looked like Merrick.

Elara leaned close to Gillian and whispered with a hard edge in her tone, “Gillian, this really is Ralph. Be careful. When Merrick was convicted six years ago, he never pushed to reopen the case. With his influence on Capital Planet, he could have saved Merrick easily.”

His sudden arrival was deeply suspicious. From his attitude, he was clearly not on the 9th Legion’s side.

His failure to intervene back then spoke volumes.

Gillian’s heart turned cold. As a father, choosing to ignore such a grave injustice against his own son meant he was complicit with the people who framed Merrick.

The soldiers outside the metal room shot anxious glances toward Gillian. One of them asked, “Mrs. Cole, is this man truly Commander Cole’s father?”

Gillian raised a hand to calm them down. “Mr. Ralph Cole, this is a top-secret 9th Legion meeting room. Breaking in without permission is a criminal offense. Out of respect for you as Merrick’s father, we will dismiss this as excessive concern. Guards, escort him to the guest lounge to wait. He may speak with Merrick as soon as Merrick returns.”

The soldiers chorused, “Yes, Mrs. Cole.”

Ralph snarled fiercely, “Touch me, and you will regret it.”

The troops were caught in a difficult spot. Gillian sighed and told them to stand guard outside while she spoke to him alone.

Ralph’s sharp eyes swept Gillian up and down, his expression full of displeasure. “Sharp- tongued female. Are you the one my son mated with on the Outer Planet?”

She wore a cleric’s uniform, with a tiny Blue Phoenix perched on her shoulder. Ralph instantly realized she was the one who had coordinated the Legion’s supporters in the StarNet comment section.

Gillian knew little about Ralph, but she held back her anger out of respect for Merrick’s father and answered plainly, “I am.”

Ralph waved the statement away sharply. “I will never accept you as Merrick’s mate. Your marriage to Merrick carries no legal weight on Capital Planet.”

Gillian understood immediately. Ralph opposed their union, yet she would not let him dictate her fate.

Seeing her fall silent, Ralph folded his hands behind his back and glanced at the frozen justice officers on the floor, as if blaming her for the mess.

The Department of Justice officers lay frozen solid, their eyes blazing with rage, ready to hurl accusations the moment they thawed.

Ralph snapped, “A captain dares freeze Department of Justice officers? How does Merrick run this legion?”

Gillian replied calmly, “We acted out of urgent necessity. We only kept them from causing trouble.”

Ralph ordered sternly, “Lift the freeze. Imprisoning judicial staff can put you behind bars for life”
