"Thank you."
"Don't mention it. What are best friends for?"
Suddenly, Tiffany's eyes lit up. "Wait a second! Sera, you're the majority shareholder! You have every right to sit on the board. Why go through the trouble of separating them? You should march right in there and show that old bastard Samuel who actually owns the Simmons Group!"
Seraphina offered a bitter smile. "It's easier said than done. The company is a massive web of politics right now. Samuel has spent years packing the board with his cronies. Even if I walked in with my shares, I'd just be an empty figurehead."
"So you're just going to let it go?" Tiffany demanded, visibly frustrated. "You're going to hand over the empire your grandfather built without a fight?"
"Of course not. I just need time..."
She trailed off, keeping the rest of her thoughts to herself.
Besides, being pregnant made executing any grand schemes incredibly complicated.
Even though Lucian had promised to protect this child, she refused to place her entire future in someone else's hands.
Her grandfather had always adored her, and his final words still echoed in her memory.
The frail old man had squeezed her hand, using every last ounce of his strength to whisper, "Sera, the Simmons family is in your hands now."
She couldn't let her grandfather down.
The food soon arrived at their table.
They both dug in, thoroughly enjoying the spicy broth.
Seraphina hadn't touched hotpot since she found out she was pregnant.
The cravings had finally gotten the better of her.
As a result, she ended up eating quite a bit.
After lunch, the two of them strolled through the luxury shopping mall.
Tiffany insisted on buying several outfits for her unborn godson, completely ignoring Seraphina's protests.
"Stop buying things! Babies grow so fast, he won't even get to wear half of this," she warned.
"I want to," Tiffany declared fiercely. "My godson deserves nothing but the best."
Seraphina didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
While Seraphina slipped away to use the restroom, Tiffany sneakily purchased a newlywed gift for her as well.
She made a huge deal out of it when she handed it over. "Sera, this is a special wedding present from me. Do not open it until you get home, understood?"
The memory of their morning kiss crashed into his mind, and an intense heat immediately surged through his veins.
Loosening his tie with a sharp tug, his gaze landed on an elegant shopping bag resting on the bed.
Inside, Seraphina shut off the water, suddenly sensing a shift in the atmosphere.
"Lucian, is that you?" she called out hesitantly.
"It's me," Lucian replied, the corner of his lips curling into a faint smile at the sound of his name.
Seraphina paused for a moment before grabbing her hair dryer.
Then, she froze. Remembering what was in that bag, she threw the bathroom door open in an utter panic.
But she was a second too late.
Lucian stood with his back to her, his long fingers dangling a piece of extremely sheer, pale green lace lingerie. "What exactly is this...?"
Seraphina wanted the earth to swallow her whole.
This was a catastrophic level of social suicide!
