With just one casually delivered sentence, Phoenix shattered all of Julian's bravado like a sledgehammer.
Lawrence had already stepped forward with two bodyguards, blocking their path with an expressionless face. "Mr. Julian, Ms. Phoebe, if you please."
"Lawrence, how dare you try to kick me out?! Have you forgotten whose dog you are?" Julian was furious. The butler who used to bow and scrape before him was now daring to walk all over him.
Lawrence bowed slightly, his tone neither humble nor arrogant. "Please watch your words, sir. I now serve only Ms. Prescott."
"Fine, just great!! You ungrateful traitor!" Julian gnashed his teeth in anger, his face contorting.
But under the intimidation of the two burly bodyguards, Julian and Phoebe, despite their deep reluctance, could only slink away as they were "escorted" out.
Peace returned to the house.
"Phoenix, were those two really... your relatives?" Meredith stared in sheer disbelief, her shock reaching a new peak. "Suddenly, being betrayed by my own family doesn't seem quite so bad."
In comparison, the malice Phoenix faced seemed much more blatant and ugly.
"Just eat your food." Phoenix rolled her eyes and dropped a piece of egg into Meredith's bowl.
Meredith stuck out her tongue and buried herself in her food, secretly vowing to always treat Phoenix well. The Prescotts didn't love her, but she would; the Prescotts didn't spoil her, but she would! From now on, she was Phoenix's family.
...
Out in the yard, the evicted Julian and Phoebe stood in the cold wind, their faces looking absolutely atrocious.
The home they had lived in for years had been hijacked by Phoenix, and they had been shooed out like annoying flies. If word of this got out, where would they hide their faces?
"Julian, what do we do? Are we really just going to let ourselves be kicked out?" Phoebe's face was fraught with worry, but a vicious malice hid in the depths of her eyes.
"Hmph, she can't actually throw us out." Julian narrowed his eyes, staring coldly at the front doors. "Grandfather may appear to side with her right now, but until she shows real results, he'll never give her real power. If she pushes too far, she'll definitely piss him off."
This eviction was more of a warning and a show of force.
"She really went too far this time." Phoebe sighed, speaking in a gloomy tone. "Not only did she bring sketchy people back, she even kicked out her own brother. How will the other families look at us if they find out?"
"Okay, I'll wait for you to become the top player in the industry." Phoenix offered a warm smile, her eyes full of tenderness.
Meredith was instantly fired up. "There's a global jewelry exhibition next week, and even industry giants like MK Global will be attending. If Lumina can take home the grand prize this time, it'll be our stepping stone onto the international stage."
"You can do it. I've never doubted your abilities."
Empowered by Phoenix's encouragement, Meredith beamed like a flower in bloom. "Oh right, I almost forgot to mention, the design drafts you sent me earlier were absolutely phenomenal! With you as my trump card, that grand prize is practically in the bag."
Just as they were chatting, the buzzing vibration of a phone broke the cozy atmosphere.
Meredith glanced at the screen, and her previously relaxed brows instantly locked tight.
"What's wrong?" Noticing her change in expression, Phoenix asked softly.
Meredith didn't hide it, simply passing the phone over. An illuminated text message sat on the screen—
[Merry, it's Mavis. Can we meet up to talk?]
