Lewis walked up to the hospital bed. The tears he had been holding back for years finally broke through, rolling down his face in thick, heavy drops.
For countless days and nights, he had prayed for his sister to wake up. He had suffered in a purgatory of regret—if Quinn hadn't come to bring him dinner that night, the tragedy never would have happened.
Now, seeing her lying there so peacefully, her chest rising and falling with faint but vibrant breaths, he could no longer suppress the overwhelming surge of emotion. Every ounce of his grief and hope morphed into silent, unrestrained weeping.
"Quinn is completely stable," Phoenix said, her tone level as she walked closer. "Thanks to Warren keeping her alive as leverage against you and me, she's been very well cared for all these years. If he hadn't, not even God himself could have brought her back."
"Ms. Prescott, can my sister... can she really wake up?" Lewis wiped his face haphazardly, looking at Phoenix with desperate hope.
Phoenix's lips curled up slightly as she glanced toward the door. "Whether she wakes up or not depends entirely on him."
Lewis followed her gaze just as someone stepped into the room. At first glance, the person looked like an extraordinarily beautiful 'woman', but upon closer inspection, despite the breathtaking, androgynous features, there was an unmistakable, razor-sharp edge to him that demanded immediate respect.
"Phoenix, you really love tossing me the impossible cases." The Azure Healer sighed, shaking his head in mild exasperation. "She's in a persistent vegetative state. I..."
Thud.
Without a second of hesitation, Lewis collapsed forward, desperation seizing him as he looked up at the doctor. "Please, save my sister! If you can bring her back, I'll work for you like a dog for the rest of my life!"
"Hey, hey, stand up." The Azure Healer frowned, clearly put off. "Don't just drop to the floor like that. I save people strictly based on my mood. Although..."
He shot Phoenix a loaded look. "Sometimes, I'm willing to do Phoenix a favor."
Phoenix rolled her eyes and reached down to pull Lewis up. "You don't need to beg like this. I promised you I'd make sure your sister woke up, and I never break my promises."
She shot the doctor a sharp look.
"Alright, I'll handle it." The Azure Healer nodded, stepping up to the bed and expertly examining Quinn's vitals. "She's been asleep for years, but her nutrition and physical upkeep are flawless. Waking her up won't actually be too difficult."
"Really?" Lewis's eyes flared with intense light, as if he had finally caught hold of the only rope leading out of the abyss.
"I never say things I don't mean." The Azure Healer's tone carried an incredibly reassuring level of confidence. "Both of you get out. I need total focus for the acupuncture. I can't have any distractions."
Phoenix led Lewis out of the room.
In the hallway, Lewis's voice was still shaking. "Ms. Prescott, thank you... thank you so much for giving me hope. I really thought I was going to live the rest of my life drowning in guilt. I never imagined... my sister was actually still alive."
