Intoxicated by power, Silas completely missed the amusement hiding in Pierce's dark eyes. He continued acting the part of the magnanimous superior. “Pierce, you don't actually have to leave. If you stay with the company, I can arrange a director position for you. How does that sound?”
“Oh? Are you sure?” Pierce narrowed his eyes slightly, giving him a half-smile. “Don't forget, Silas, I still hold thirty percent of the Sterling Group's shares.”
The muscles in Silas's face stiffened. He let out a dry laugh. “Heh, Pierce, I know you're a man of great ambition. This pond is too small for you anyway, so I won't force you to stay.”
Pierce's smile vanished, his gaze turning icy. “Cut the crap. Do you have the money ready?”
Silas also dropped his fake friendly act, his voice lowering. “Thirty billion dollars is no small sum. I went to great lengths to gather those funds.”
He pulled a thick stack of share transfer contracts from a drawer and slammed it onto the desk. “Sign it. As soon as your pen leaves the paper, the money goes into your account.”
Pierce picked up the contract and casually flipped through a few pages. After confirming there were no hidden traps in the text, he uncapped his fountain pen and smoothly signed his name.
Seeing the bold signature, Silas's heart skipped a beat, a faint sense of inexplicable danger washing over him. But then he reminded himself that he was now securely in the CEO's seat. Once he swallowed this thirty percent stake, not even Arthur could control him.
From now on, the Sterling Group would truly belong to him alone!
“You can transfer the money now.” Pierce tossed the signed contract back onto the desk.
Silas snatched up the contract. After thoroughly verifying the signature, he finally let out a long sigh of relief, flashing a victor's smile. “You're straightforward, Pierce. I like that!”
“Since you've been so cooperative, I naturally won't disappoint you.”
He typed away on his keyboard, then turned the monitor around to face Pierce.
“Thirty billion, wired directly to you.”
Pierce glanced at the transfer confirmation on the screen just as his phone buzzed in his pocket. A trace of mockery flashed in his eyes. “Silas, from this moment on, you are the true master of the Sterling Group.”
“I wish you luck... in taking the company to 'new heights.'”
