"Ethan, you finally made it," Wesley said, rubbing his hands together with a sycophantic grin as he approached. "We've all been waiting for you."
Ethan didn't even blink. He brushed past Wesley, his gaze landing squarely on Alistair in the hospital bed.
"How are you holding up, Alistair?"
Alistair leaned against the headboard and gave a slow nod. "Much better. Once I'm discharged in a few days, I'll take back the reins of the Prescott Group. That girl Phoenix turned the company into a circus. I might be old, but I won't sit idly by."
Hearing this, Caleb, seated in his wheelchair, curled his lips into a cold, sharp sneer.
The old man's audacity was truly boundless; his words were a blatant declaration of ownership.
As long as Alistair was breathing, he considered himself the undisputed ruler of the Prescott Group. Even though Ethan and Caleb now held thirty-five percent of the shares, the old man expected them to obediently hand over their power on a silver platter.
"You should just focus on resting, Alistair," Ethan said, his tone completely flat, stripped of its usual warmth, leaving only a frigid detachment.
"With Caleb and me keeping an eye on things, the company won't fall apart. Besides, with my thirty-five percent stake, the lower-level shareholders wouldn't dare step out of line."
Alistair's cloudy eyes suddenly shot out a chilling glare, locking onto Ethan's face. "Are you saying I'm too old to manage my own company?"
"I wouldn't dare," Ethan lowered his head slightly, though his tone didn't yield an inch. "I just think that after working yourself to the bone for most of your life, it's time you let go and enjoyed your retirement."
Crash!
A glass cup was hurled violently to the floor, shattering into countless pieces as water splashed everywhere.
"Ethan! The Prescott Group is my life's work, and no one is going to destroy it, not even my eldest son!" Alistair tore off his hypocritical mask, his face darkening as he barked the order. "As soon as I'm discharged, you will transfer all your shares to me immediately!"
Ethan let out a bleak scoff in his heart.
After all these years, the old man was still as arrogant and dictatorial as ever. In his eyes, the head of the family and the CEO of the company were nothing more than pieces on his chessboard, meant to be manipulated at will.
