Soon, a knock sounded on the door of the CEO's office.
Ever since Phoenix returned and headed for the reception room, Julian and Warren had been waiting inside, consumed by anxiety.
Hearing the knock, they immediately called for the person to enter.
"Mr. Warren, Julian." Felix walked in, sporting his trademark sycophantic smile. "Here is the contract for The Legacy District Project."
"Why is there only one?!" Seeing only a single document, Julian's brow furrowed heavily, his stomach dropping. "Did Phoenix reject the collaboration with Ignis Global?"
"Not exactly." Felix shook his head. "Manager Prescott said that for the second contract, Phoebe needs to personally bring 'the item' over to retrieve it."
Hearing this, Warren and Julian exchanged a dark look, their expressions turning instantly grim.
They understood immediately. Phoenix was demanding the five percent of Prescott Group shares that Phoebe currently held.
"Get the hell out!"
Julian roared, outright kicking him out of the office.
Just as Felix reached the door, Julian stopped him. "Felix, don't think that just because you're playing Phoenix's lapdog you can stand tall around here. Prescott Group is still my father's and my domain."
Felix paused, then turned around, bowing politely but without an ounce of submissiveness. "Julian, thank you for the reminder. But your statement might be a bit biased. Aside from the two of you, Prescott Group is also run by the board of directors."
With that, he turned sharply and strode out of the office.
Only when the door clicked shut did he realize his heart was hammering wildly against his ribs.
That was exhilarating!
In the past, he had always tucked his tail between his legs and played the coward in front of this father-son duo.
"Dad, how did this happen?!" Julian paced back and forth frantically, one hand on his hip and the other rubbing his temples. "We sent her to Blackwood Penitentiary to take the fall for Phoebe, and to break her spirit. But now that she's out, how has she turned into a monster that even we can't control?!"
His temples throbbed, his mind flashing back to the humiliation he suffered at Aqueous Wellness Club. He gritted his teeth. "Everyone says Blackwood is a living hell. But Phoenix wasn't broken at all; instead, she's..."
"Enough!" Warren patted his son's shoulder, his voice low and steady. "Remember what your uncle said. We cannot fight Phoenix head-on. The girl is a lunatic, and you can't reason with a lunatic."
"We have to outsmart her. We need to find a way to strip away her leverage and make her fall from her pedestal, crushing her completely in the process."
Julian took a few deep breaths, barely regaining his composure. "Dad, what about the five percent shares Phoebe holds? Are we really going to give them to her?"
"Give them to her!" Warren narrowed his eyes, a lethal glint flashing in them. "If we don't, she will absolutely use the West City project to hold us hostage."
His voice turned venomous. "Those old foxes on the board don't care whose hands the shares are in. They only care if the project lands with Prescott Group. If the deal falls through, our positions are the ones truly in danger."
"Let's wait it out." Warren sighed, his tone chilling. "Let Phoenix act arrogant for a few days. Once she thinks we've surrendered and lowers her guard, we will... deal a fatal blow."
