Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 48

In those moments, it felt as though the entire world had faded away, leaving only the two of them. Relying on and supporting each other, their exhaustion would vanish without a trace, replaced by a deep sweetness that made it all feel entirely worth it.

Remembering those bygone days, Summer chuckled and shook her head, laughing at how foolishly naive she had been.

The study featured a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf where her books and Xavier's were mixed together. She had to sort through them one by one.

Just like her feelings for Xavier—they had to be sorted out and completely thrown away.

After coaxing Leo to sleep, Summer felt the fatigue settling in. Her lower back was still aching, so she decided to leave the rest of the packing for the next day.

She had requested time off from Gavin. She would move out tomorrow and formally report to his company the day after.

The sound of a car engine echoed from outside. Summer walked to the window and glanced out. To her surprise, it was Xavier's car.

He actually came back?!

Summer raised an eyebrow as if she had just seen a ghost. Noticing him staring at the now-empty garden, she turned and headed downstairs.

Just as she reached the second-floor landing, she heard Xavier questioning Mrs. Gable. "Mrs. Gable, where are the tulips that were in the garden?"

His tone was exceptionally sharp, laced with an undeniable, oppressive fury.

Summer had come downstairs precisely because she was worried he would take his anger out on Mrs. Gable. Hearing him, she raised her voice. "I had someone pull them up."

Heavy footsteps approached as Xavier appeared at the bottom of the stairs.

Summer finally saw his rigidly tense jaw. His expression was darkly chilling, his entire frame radiating a suffocating wave of low pressure.

"Why did you have them pulled?" Xavier asked, practically grinding his teeth.

Summer halted her descent, looking down at him from the steps. "I didn't like them anymore, so I had them removed. Is there a problem?"

"Is there a problem?" Xavier laughed, completely enraged. "I planted those flowers for you! And you just rip them out without a second thought?"

Summer raised an eyebrow, feigning confusion. "If you planted them for me, and I don't like them anymore, I got rid of them. Why are you so mad?"
